What kind of rechargeable battery is in your camera? A Lithium Ion batt should be good for 300-500 "full" recharges, or the equivalent of part charges, before it's charge capacity drops down too much.

    Monitor strangeness

1600*1200*85Hz is the max that that monitor can do, so it could well be deteriorating past the point where it can support it.

You did a great job Merc, James' link to the dark underbelly of evil was swiftly and correctly dispatched to the netherworld. Fortunately I captured it for further investigation by the Church of the Lovers of Bill. On a completely unrelated note, an Aussie Rules footy player was today suspended...

    Simple recording setup

Yes. Just like a .bmp. But it file size can be nearly halved by using a lossless codec such as MonkeyAudio. Of course, what with SR.com still posting insanely large 200KB+ pictures of the HD reviewed, why not just go for the big lardy stuff ;)

    USB2.0 first experience

I'm using an OrangeMicro Firewire + USB 2 combo pci card. Firewire section works fine without any drivers, the USB 2 section required the beta win2k drivers to work. I believe Abit have a mobo (Max?) with both usb2 and firewire on board, but it gets rids of legacy ports such as serial (and...

    USB2.0 first experience

I think both USB2 and Firewire have their place in the market. Currently I have a combo card with both but only use the Firewire for an external hard drive. USB2 will be good due to backwards compatibility with USB1.1 Firewire will continue to be used for DV. We will see Firewire 2 before the...

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure it is crunching on a large gene (70-80+ AA), as otherwise the mb usage when you finally upload can get costly for people on dl limited dial up :(

$140 per month! :eekers: I would have suggested Austar broadband (previously chello) which had wireless downloads (I had over 3mbit/sec at times, and they only bitched if you went over 10 GB) and dialup uploads for about $65 per month ($55 with austar tv bundle), but they went titsup in...

Got to play with a new iMac today

Basically there is no hardware acceleration of the graphics used, as opposed to Windows where nearly everything is done by the 2D hardware in your video chip. Also, it is still basically in beta, with speed improvements with every new point release. I guess by the end of the year they should...

Got to play with a new iMac today

My next door neighbour got a g4 iMac ( the bid range model with combo drive). OS 9.2 performance was fine, but then she said she wanted all the pretty effects of OS X, so I rebooted in that. Performance is absolutely pathetic, any kind of window resizing makes me think i'm using a 386. And...

Of course the solution if you have a laptop is simple. When you take it home, get it to download a unit. Then run with the Run off network option (-nonet) whilst at work, it will rerun the unit with a diff variation, and won't need to connect to the Net.

    Dual Athlon Epox M762A Availability

I've had bad memory from Crucial, a failed 256MB Reg ECC DDR module and an overheating 256MB PC133 SO-DIMM (which I believe is using 8ns chips). Given the problems with doing an RMA from Australia I will never be buying from them again.

Norton AV 2002. Grab an OEM copy, should be good for 180 days of updated. Now a few years ago I would have rather been castrated than had a Norton product on my machine, but NAV 2002 is surprisingly good.

    Dual Athlon Epox M762A Availability

Doug: Mushkin has PC2700 and PC3000 DDR, I would take that over Crucial anyday. Tony, you can always unlock the Athlon and lower the multiplier, enabling the FSB to be increased.

20 GB of remote storage Tony? Or is that 20 MB? Merc, make sure those 340MB Microdrives are Mk II models that spin at 3600rpm, and not the first gen models that spin at 4400rpm. SR has reviewed the Seagate 36ES2

What a slug. You can see the confidence they have in the product, a 3 year warranty. Any why is there a frigging 200KB image that is only 259*334 pixels in size? No wonder SR.com is running out of money for bandwidth. Compression anybody? Not to mention the 700KB full size image.

15" UXGA is a strain for many peoples eyes. There is no 15" version of the 2000FP. I would much rather have the 20" version. The 20" was available for just under $1300 yesterday when there was 20% off, Dell does this quite often so it's only a matter of waiting. Of course in Australia it is not...
