    OT: Apology to China

IPSC is great fun. Can be very costly, if you decide to go into "Open" class. Much more affordable is a stock class gun, which has limits on what mods you can do to it. If you wanna run around and shoot the crap out of bits of cardboard and knock down steel "pepper poppers" nothing is better :)...

    2U Server: Mainboard Dilemma

I don't think there was anything technically wrong with i810, it's just that the integrated video sucked hard.

I think about $10,000 per cpu "module" I think (with 4 or 8 or however many cores in each)

    Another oddity

I have noticed that once I enter into a thread, and hit my back button on the mouse to return to the main thread view, it sometimes gives me an older version of that page. I have to hit an actual link such as > Computers, for it to refresh properly. Using IE6. Usually only one SR browser window...

Sending email from the burst.net provided SMTP server should work without authentication, because the shared host you are using will be in bursts IP range. Is this the account you are having trouble with, or your ISP's SMTP server?

Is this forum going to last?

Ok, so you are trying to use your ISP's mail server thru an ip range outside your ISP's range. Sounds like a relaying problem like James mentioned. In my case with pair.com hosting, it permits me to use their mail relay, but only for 15 mins after checking my mail on that account. This is...

Bait and switch is illegal in Australia as well. I believe Tony's good friends Hardly Normal are under investigation for something along those lines? Or was it deceptive advertising? One of the two.

Floppy Drives: What is your verdict?

In the future there will prob be onboard wireless lan (802.11b or whatever) for minimal cost, reducing the need for devices such as floppy drives. Re: Minidisc, I believe the actual storage capacity is about 100-200MB?, and it gets the 70 min playtimes by agressive compression. I recall Ian...

    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

I cook because I have to, living alone. I enjoy eating what I have cooked, but prefer to cook things fast. Nothing worse than slaving for 2 hours over a stove, only to eat it all in 10 mins!

Floppy Drives: What is your verdict?

I still need a floppy drive to update my BIOS. Now with TigerMP even a 24" floppy cable is not long enough to reach to the top of my cae so it is not connected. But if I ever needed it I could hook it up. Now I notice that with many new computers, my laptop included, the BIOS can be upgraded...

Hello, everyone, and a couple of ideas

Of course I would be happy to host some of the load on my webspace if things get down to that stage. Definitely no need for Handruin to go titstup.com.

Hello, everyone, and a couple of ideas

I'm back on dial up after chello broadband was shutdown, so anything that eases the load on my dl limit would be welcome. DB also only has intermittent dial up in the sty that he lives in when he is not in the drunk tank. So two no votes here too.

    The Systems that Sell

Well regarding the diff between the GF2MX cards, there is a big difference in mem bandwidth between the MX 200 and MX 400, but there is absolutely no performance diff between the 32MB and 64MB version. Of course it looks impressive on the spec sheet. I believe people are sick of paying say...

SiS645 chipset, are you tempted to turn to Intel again?

But this time, the AMD performance ratings actually understate the performance of the chips compared to the p4. The XP 2000+ is equal to or faster than a p4 2GHz. It doesn't really bother me, I know what the true chip speed is.

SiS645 chipset, are you tempted to turn to Intel again?

I believe Tony is sellling a steady stream of almost exclusively AMD machines, with Intel available on special order?

The 1250 is a low end one Tony. The 1650 is the next one up and costs a fair bit more. Mum's got a 1250 and it doens't have the lit top. But I do have the lit lid on my Agfa e50 and the negative scans from that are not crash hot. I guess we get what we pay for.

A definite vote for yes, to keep them. Of course if bandwidth problems rear their ugly head we may have to reconsider but I think right now it should be fine?

SiS645 chipset, are you tempted to turn to Intel again?

Definitely have to agree with Tony, the prices of decent performing P4's aren't even in the same universe as an equivelently performing AthlonXP, certainly in Australia.

Ahh, so instead of the 1.7's you went for the 2.2's? Very nice. Always costly to stay on the bleedin-edge of Intel ;) Did you manage to obtain the SMT patch for your OS? P.S. Not too late to recompress that screeny in .gif :D
