Only Seagate and WD deliberately crippled their drives as far as I can tell. I don't have any large Samsung drives but I do have a dozen 3TB Hitachis that have been happily buzzing away for about 18 months.

WD Green drives work with absolutely nothing that makes disk arrays and I promise I tried a LOT of different setups. Your best bet is to use Windows 8 Storage Spaces if you really want to use green drives.
