I think it's a case where still waters run deep. There's a level of un-ironic enjoyment of something that really is innocent and lacking in pretense, combined with the specific irony of adult fandom; or the post-ironic and almost academic discussions about the moral philosophy of Ponies and...

    The death of Best Buy

Today I was at Microcenter with plans to buy a few Ivy Bridge CPUs. Microcenter will only sell a person one CPU at a time. They claim they even track it across locations. There is a one per month limit on CPU purchases. I've never run into that before. Fortunately, I had someone with me at the...

    Best movie you've seen

I've seen the Avengers five times now. I've seen the IMAX 3D presentation twice, regular 3D once and the normal version twice. I continue to feel that 3D doesn't add enough to the movie to be worthwhile, especially since it's at the expense of better color contrast. The non-3D presentation is a...

Actually, I know that because she was talking about it online yesterday. She said it was AWESOME. It was pretty funny because she's seen all the Marvel movies more than once but doesn't know anything about the comics. So the whole way back to Indiana we had a big long conversation about the...

    The obligatory Blackberry thread

I have individual customers who might very well send me 50 or 60 messages a day, all one sentence long at most and devoid of definite nouns so that I have even the least idea what they're writing about. Given those habits I guess I could see SOMEONE doing that. Someone I would wish a shameful...

    The obligatory Blackberry thread

RIM announced its new products today. I doubt anyone cares. I don't know anyone still using a BB. They can go sit in the Corner of Irrelevance next to Nokia. Apparently they're really proud of their new video camera capabilities, which would probably have been awesome and interesting in about 2008.

Everybody's dog is their great pal. My community turned a disused baseball field by my apartment into a dog park. I love going over there to say hi to all the dogs. It's a bullshit thing. These systems are going to sit on manager-types' desks. They get higher-spec machines for more-or-less no reason at all. They aren't concern with their power bill, at least not that they've told me.

    High-end rackmount question

It's my experience when dealing with server-anything that you do what the specs say you do. You buy the RAM they want. You use the rails they tell you and you don't guess as to the acceptable dimensions for boards in the chassis.

    High-end rackmount question
