    Buying 17" LCD monitors

Let us know how it performs. I must admit to a staggering distrust/dislike of Acer products as that (apart from a brief Dell fling) is what has been used at work for the last 8 years plus, and the vast majority of Acer 17" & 19" CRT's have vied with each other in the "lets make this text fuzzy"...

    Buying 17" LCD monitors

Don't get me started on LG's "service" :x Most LG panels use 6-bit TN film displays. OK for browsing or games. Crap for colour work. For serious work, you would be better served with a proper 8-bit panel. IN the links below there is some interesting stuff on specifications and how...

    File corruption with WD800JB

The bug is back Event ID: 9 followed by Even ID: 51 So it only happens on the WD, and it is controller and cable independent. It's got to be the drive. It doesn't happen to the Maxtor or the Samsung. Now to see if I can convince WD to RMA.

    File corruption with WD800JB

SATA does not have any measurable performance improvement over PATA. PATA is cheaper. Ever tried to install XP on a SATA drive without a floppy drive in the machine or a diskette with the driver? SATA marketed itself as being faster (see point 1) and I can't stand marketing bullsh!t. My...

    File corruption with WD800JB

Hmmm, looks like the cable was it. It was a very tight squeeze to get the two drives connected because of there locations. Looks like the pressure damaged the cable or the connectors. It has been 36 hours and no errors in the Event Log. First case of a dud cable ever. I have left the...

    File corruption with WD800JB

Hmmm, I spoke too soon. On the weekend, I swapped out the Corsair XMS LL for some KingMax DDR500. As the RAM is only running DDR460, I set Command Rate to T1 (default T2) and CAS to 2.5 (3.0). So when Mark mentioned this, I thought straight away that that was the problem. Bumped everything...

    File corruption with WD800JB

I am getting a weird error in WinXP SP2. I have three hard drives installed WD800JB, SP1213N and 6Y120M0. The Samsung and Maxtor have one dynamic partition each whilst the WD has three basic partitions and is the boot drive. At odd intervals, the following event shows up in the Event Log...

Hmmm, early on in the piece, Mr. Neil targets Bob--we can sell 40 000 Monaro/GTO a year--Lutz. Given his track record (or lack of), I'd say say Mr. Lutz hasn't got his finger on the pulse. And neither do the Aussie motoring press because they were saying how "visionary" Mr. Lutz was. Good...

    Recommendation for FP LCD

AnandTech seem to like the Dell 1905FP--they imply it is a badged version of the Samsung 193T. The price is certainly right in Aus $588.00 delivered, which puts it a couple of hundred $ cheaper than LG, BenQ etc. And as my Mitsubishi DiamondTron DV19NF has just died--three years and three...

Well I bought a Samsung SP1213N (PATA) and connected it up to the VIA mobo. And the transfer is just the same going from PATA to PATA as it is from PATA to SATA (and vica versa). Could be a controller thing as blakewry suggested. I might dump in a Promise controller for giggles and see what...

Thanks for the feedback guys. At least I'm not totally off base :) The idea isn't a money making exercise (of itself). It's more to learn about customers and expectations and then make some decisions at a later date about where I might want to take this. I used to look after a few small...

Updated the VIA SATA/RAID drivers to v 3.10. Still no joy. BTW. The disk isn't in a RAID array. It is the only SATA device. If it is of relevance, the WD is a Basic disc (3 partitions), while the SATA Maxtor is a Dynamic simple volume. OS is XP Pro.
