    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

This is simple to make, but the cutting up is a bit of a pain. Good for three or four. Bit of a fave. It's not too hot, but you could easily leave out the chilli. Spicy sausage pasta with tomato, chilli, shallots & cheese 2 Chorizos (spicy Spanish sausage). Slice. Dice (small cubes) two...

    Anybody use DVD2SVCD?

Cr*p! And I can't afford a FX-55 or duallie :( I did drop the Motion Search Precision and set the Aspect ratio to the correct setting which has helped somewhat, so a 43 min AVI will now only take around 1:50 :-? Thanks for the feedback oh guru of knowledge

    Anybody use DVD2SVCD?

    BTW, this is on a s754 Athlon 2800+ @ 2.43 GHz. 512MB PC3200 (Corsair XMS3200-LL). The vid card is a Radeon 9550.

    Anybody use DVD2SVCD?

I'm using it to convert an AVI file to SVCD to play on the TV. The encoder in use is TMPGEnc, and the AVI file needs the XViD codec to be playable. My question is, this 48 min AVI has taken nearly 2 hours to process 25%. Is this normal? I'm after quality. Is there a better way to do this...

Trouble installing XP-Pro with new PC Build

Memory failures Any error is bad news. Are you running overclocked/aggressive memory settings? If you aren't, run memtest with a single DIMM and see if you get errors. If you do, swap the same stick into another socket. Run memtest again. If you still get memory errors, you probably have...

CD Spin-up Brings System to Standstill

Piyono, in three words: Microsoft crap coding. There are all sorts of non-blocking agorithms to use when doing I/O in modern operating systems, but this issue has plagued Windows from day 1. Users of dual systems don't complain (as you have a free processor to service requests), and I...

    O/C ing on S754--mobo recommendation

    O/C ing on S754--mobo recommendation

Picked up a Abit KV8Pro. Had some issues with o/cing initially as this is my first foray into Athlon 64 land. Picked up a 2800+ as a stop gap--but the merchant pulled a swifty and I ended up with a C0 stepping. Currently it is running @ 2430 Mhz on a 270MHz bus, stock cooler and stock voltage...

    Athlon 64 3200+ 939?

    Heh! A64 4000+ 939 2.4GHz 1MB $729 A64 FX53 940 2.4GHz 1MB $827 And the difference is? Why would anyone buy the FX53? (Even though it wll be discontinued)

    Athlon 64 3200+ 939?

Good to see some reliable numbers. Mind you, AMD's 90nm process is late, so I suspect AMD were better at keeping problems under wraps until they fixed them (I do hear that they had issues with their first attempts at 90nm SOI)--keeps the 'street happy I guess. Time, that sig is so funny!

    Athlon 64 3200+ 939?

My understanding of the 90nm 939 chips is this. Model 3000+ s754 = 512KB cache/2.0Ghz/1 memory channel Model 3000+ s939 = 512KB cache/1.8Ghz/2 memory channels s939 chips will be 200MHz slower than s754 chips. By the time 754 EOL's, PCI-e/DDR2 will be the flavour, so buying a s939 board now...

    O/C ing on S754--mobo recommendation

Hey thanks guys--really useful stuff. Time I am :) I did not know this about C 'N' Q. Thanks. All the old 1MB parts were C0. All the 512KB models are CG. But AMD does list a 1MB CG part in their OPN guide. Mercutio wrote: Thank you. Very much appreciated.

Another question, do any of you resellers know if AMD are making s754 2.0GHz 1MB cache Athlon 64's anymore? Are they readily available or rare? I can find lots of 2.2GHz/512KB versions--but I don't want one.

Time, thanks for the info. I will probably try to pick up the Gigabyte board this weekend. I've seen the K8NS for AU$170. The Pro only adds RAID and Gig-E LAN doesn't it? Both of which I don't need. I don't suppose you know whether the board supports Cool 'N' Quiet do you? According to...

    O/C ing on S754--mobo recommendation

I am thinking of grabbing a S754 mobo and want one that is overclocking friendly--but on a budget. I have always tended to use EPoX or Abit, but their boards tend to be at the high end. What I would prefer VIA K8T800/Pro chipset or NVIDIA nForce3 250. BIOS adjustable bus speeds in 1 MHz...

    Athlon64 3000 - who's taking the $215 plunge?

Time, the GB board has the correct chipset for Gig-E LAN, but the manufacturer only equips it for use as a 10/100 LAN connection. My reading of H's post was that he was looking for a S939 solution with Gig-E. The GigaByte board doesn't have it. Or did I read it wrong?

    SATA-2

I found this post over on Ace's about SATA-2. The answer from Maxtor seems a little disturbing. This could be another case of marketing triumphing over truth. Basically it is saying that parts (all?) of the SATA-2 spec are optional--like support for faster transfers etc. I realise that at...

I have been trying to help a guy at work with a WD SATA HD issue--80GB JB. Basically, Windows XP will not install on the drive. It (XP) tries to create a 8GB partition to install on, gets partway through and then cannot recognise the drive (Intel i815 mobo). After suggestion running...

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

Why is SuperMicro looked upon so highly? My only dealings with them were in the '95~'97 timeframe where I had four HX, VX, TX based boards from them, and all four failed within the warranty period. I have never had any other motherboard from any other manufacturer fail on me before or since.
