Can anybody explain this transfer rate to me?

Well I low-level formatted the drive and now the drop-off occurs 18GB into it. I think I'll flick pass this to WD support and see how good they are. Would this qualify as an RMA?

Can anybody explain this transfer rate to me?

O.K. Tried the drive on a Promise Ultra-100 controller with latest BIOS and drivers and got the same graph. Tried a different cable and teh drive seemed to go and extra 2 GB before the catastrophic drop, but is other wise the same graph. I have benched a 400JB and a D740X on the exact same...

Can anybody explain this transfer rate to me?

Yep, and it's been that long since I saw it :) I've tried the latest VIA 4in1 (4.43) The Windows 2000 SP3 default driver and run the WD diagnostics over the drive - no faults and same result. The South Bridge is a VIA 8223 Next up is a promise and then I'll try it on my EPoX 8K7A+ (VIA 686B)...

I got this late last night my time. I'm just about to kick off another run. None of the other bench's run show any evidence of such a transfer rate drop.

    Decent Fans

Slightly different fan request. What would you recommend for top end Athlon that doesn't have a 7000rpm fan and doesn't bolt on? If you know that it is available in Aus that'd be a bonus. I'm thinking Thermaltake 7+ or 9....

UV - that's simple. The person who let the 75GXP's out the door :) Ditto the same person who let Fujitsu's little numbers proliferate. Doesn't this fill anyone with dread? Fujitsu has bought IBM's Deathstar business, and F's recent past with denying anything wrong with one series of hard...

W2K services utilizing CPU 100% constantly

I could be wrong but I was always under the impression that SVCHOST was just a helper app for applications that want to run as a service on your computer. Most applications run in the user space with user priviledges. Anything running as a service has top priveledges. At the moment with a...

O.K. What I'm trying to do is optimise disk speed under Windows 2000 Professional I'm using Wbench 99 to "measure" any improvements. With the 2MB cache drives, I could get similar scores to SR, even though it was a different platform. With the 8MB cache drives, I can't get close, and in...

USB twice as fast as parallel?

Digging around in the Linux drivers for a Lexmark 7000 ColorJet, there is mention of the need for up to 700~770MB of temporary swap space for very large photo files when printing in 1200x1200 dpi mode. Most cheap inkjets get the host CPU to do all the rasterisation before passing the data to...

USB twice as fast as parallel?

Time, the cable spec is IEEE 1284a I think (can't remember off-hand). Another thing is, I've never had much luck with combined mode (ECP/EPP). You may want to try just ECP or just EPP. 0.05

USB twice as fast as parallel?

Time, what LPT settings do you have? It makes a big difference. Example 100MB LPT Zip drive LPT - normal/SPT/uni-directional setting. Copy 90MB took nearly 5 hours This is the sloest setting. Comms is one-way and usually in nibbles (1/2 bytes) Bi-drectional - not much better but at least...

    Which Linux Disto (yet again)

I have been playing with RH 7.3 a lot in the last few weeks and it works OK but SAMBA is giving me fits. However it doesn't apply to your situation because I want to share a FAT32 drive with validated users only. As far as most Linux distro's (that I've used) go, the interface is clunky...

    Clawhammer not 'til 2H03!

SteveC, there is no mention of "Claw" anywhere in that article. In the AMD conference call, it was specifically stated that "Claw" would not be out until 2H '03. In the same CC, AMD stated that they would ship Opteron in Q1 2003.
  37. LiamC

    Clawhammer not 'til 2H03!

AMD could be being clever with the use of "hammer". Opteron is a hammer chip and is slated for Q1 2003 shipment. But this is a server chip, using 8~12 layer mobo's, dual channel DDR, and a different socket -> Mega$$$. Whilst it qualifies, I don't think this will the Hammer Athlon chip we are...
