Anybody use it? (I know most people here are AMD types) Does it break anything? Does it actually do anything useful? The Inquirer has a news item raving about it. I can't test/use it - I'm still chugging along on good ol 440BX, but some people I know may benefit from it, but I can't go...

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

But really, what good does it do for people buying just the processor? You'd have to go thru hell to return it after you've stuck it in a motherboard and found out that it doesn't run at the claimed speed. It's not like the proc is DOA; it works, doesn't it?

Clocker: What is this SHEP stuff?

Splash, yes all this is old news. That "flywheel stores energy" concept had some serious money behind it too; one of the founders of Compaq (forget his name) put oodles of his money; his brother, who was a scientist with many patents was also involved. In the end, the dangers outweighed the...

Clocker: What is this SHEP stuff?

Gas/electric and Gas/hydraulic hybrids are one way to address your concerns. SHEP ic claimed to be superior to Gas/Electric in many ways. What amazes me is nobody has commented on this thread other than you. If the claims are indeed true, this is big news. Where are the car buffs? e-dawg...

Came across some info about SHEP Technologies (http://www.shepinc.com/). Stored Hydraulic Energy Propulsion. Developed by an independent inventor, Ford is apparently deep into this technology. Claims of 32% better acceleration, 38% better mileage, 51% less pollution, brake maintenance down by...

    New Raptor Review at StorageReview

Regarding the difference in performance between the SiiG and Promise (that's all it always is, right? a promise to perform, one that is never kept??), I remember reading somewhere that the Siig was native SATA while all other cards were PATA with built-in PATA to SATA converters. If this is...

I feel your pain. I recently upgraded someone's HP Pavilion 6912. Added more RAM, and formatted the disk (it had WinME) and installed W2kPro on it. Guess I was lucky; didn't have a single glitch. I would have shot the bloddy thing if it had given me the problems you experienced.

    New Raptor Review at StorageReview

The problem is that all of the SATA adapters available so far have two connectors (drives) only (AFAIK). I'd have preferred four. SCSI looks more attractive from that standpoint. WRT the drive itself, I think a 50% premium over the street price of the urrent sweet spot would have been perfect...

Buck, that's because the Addtronics W8500 is a WTX case. :D You're probably right, howell, but it's still a dumb idea. Ever try to stick a PCI card in an ISA slot? Even a newbie would be able to tell that it won't fit.

    Fans, fans, fans

I've never understood why cards in PCI and AGP slots face downwards in ATX cases. That's dumb; heat goes up, and this way, the heat has nowhere to go. In a WTX case, the PCI/AGP cards do face up like they should. They probably run a lot cooler that way, and the number of hotspots in the case are...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

What's a "common-rail" diesel engine? Seems to be the designers choice these days. Is the fuel sprayed into a "common" inlet manifold area instead of into the cylinder? If so wouldn't that mess up the self-ignition process?

Well, folks, you're partially right (path length limitation). There seems to be an additional limitation in number of directories in the path. Their diagram shows baffles (like an auto muffler) to reduce noise. That's true, but their claim that air flow is not reduced is pure bull. How can you do both at the same time? Even an auto muffler generates quite a bit of back thrust. Noise vs. air flow is a trade-off. It makes most sense to...
