    Dual Port Server NIC

iGary, agreed you're better of with GbE. The problem with that is you need a switch with at least one GbE port, and most networks today use Fast_E. Buying a new switch costs money, and s-m-a-l-l businesses are very cost conscious; for them, a second PCI server NIC would be a lot cheaper. I have...

    Dual Port Server NIC

Are dual-port nics treated as two separate NICs (i.e. 2 IP addresses) or one? When used in a server, can you connect both to the same switch for twice the throughput (servicing two requests simultaneously)? Thanks.

Tempting price, eh? The only Raid controller supported officially is a 32-bit 33MHz card - theERC3-SC, with a single (internal) channel and 32MB cache. If you were to buy a laptop: brand?

Tim, The Stinkpad came with (and is still running) Win2k Pro, which does not support ClearType. Even if it did, Cleartype wouldn't have helped my situation because the problem was not clarity (which is mainly what ClearType is for); it was size. But the quality of the LCD itself is oustanding...

If you were to buy a laptop: brand?

We discussed this in an earlier thread where I complained that I'm half blind now from using a Stinkpad with a 14.1" LCD that runs at 1400x1050. Large fonts look really crummy, Merc. It wasn't a viable option on my m/c anyway.

Actually, Merc, that's only partly right. I do have some with nn- preceding them, forcing a sort order, but this...
