I didn't vote. I've owned many WDs, Maxtors, Quantums, one IBM and most recently, one Seagate. None, repeat none, have failed. So I don't know what to say. I'll just go with the great seers here, and buy a Samsung next time. Or a Hitachi if I need the capacity.

Thanks everybody for the replies. Merc, one thing I don't understand - when they are on a spool, I've seen DVDs and CDs rotating. Doesn't that scratch them?

Sleeves in a binder that's closed with a zipper that runs all around. I've read complaints about CrapUSA's CD sleeves that scratch pretty badly. AFAIK, Case-Logic stuff is good.

I have a couple of high-capacity (~248) Case-Logic CD binders. Can I store DVDs in them too? This may seem like a silly question, but since DVDs have much smaller "pits", I'm concerned that repeated insertion into the sleeves may render them unusable. Thanks.

jtr, re. the taxicab ad project, a thought - have you considered remote source lighting? Years ago I interviewed with Remote Source Lighting Int'l, but can't find them on the web; maybe they went belly-up. Try a Google search on remote source lighting - there are many other hits.
