8mm Film transfer to digital - any recommendations?

I had a student who found instructions and built a projection box with a stable mount for a modern-ish camcorder so he could transfer everything to a digital format. It was basically a large cardboard box and some towels, but with everything measured out so the camcorder was always in the right...

Also, for anybody who has a spare 8GB flash drive, there's a thing floating in various places that's called mObscene, which is the most ridiculously useful collection of techie tools I've ever seen in one place.

It's substantially bigger than my Sandisk Cruzer Contour and probably weighs twice as much as the 4GB PNY Attache drives I used to carry. It's large enough that it can be difficult to fit something in adjacent USB ports.

    Xmarks/ Foxmarks is shutting down

Do you still use Firefox or IE? One of my big problems is that there are times when I have a legitimate need to be logged in to four or five different Google accounts at the same time and I don't want anything to mingle from one to any of the others; computers where I do work wind up having a...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

It wouldn't be so annoying, but in my opinion nothing Android is fully functional until I have superuser access (and I'm not sure that any istuff is EVER fully functional, given the app sandboxing and reliance on itunes). Things don't ship with the Google versions of tools, or they don't have...

30 - 50% better GPU performance over Sandy Bridge is certainly nothing to sneeze at, and those are the figures that are floating around the interwebs today. That would put Intel's IGP in-line with what AMD was offering two generations ago, or around half as fast as the current Radeon 6450 IGP...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

Looking at all the ridiculous hoops I've jumped through, I think something I'd kill for is a single general-purpose Android rooting procedure. USB Flash Drive

Even 70MB/sec is pretty damned good for most needs. I did think stuff would be faster. I have a 128GB Patriot Supersonic that I kind of hate because it's so damned big, but since I could eliminate three other flash drives I was carrying I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

    USB Flash Drive

I've tried four USB3 flash drives (Transcend, Kingston, Patriot and one I don't recall). They all seem to transfer data at around 70 - 75MB/sec, which is suspiciously identical to the top speed on my USB 3 SATA drive cradle. I'm not completely convinced since my sample size is three PCs with two...
