    To iPhone or Not ?

Cellphoneshop.net is my go-to for phone accessories, by the way. Also, these people just released a thingy that lets you plug an Android thing in to devices that have integration features for iStuff. Which might be cool if you have a fancy car stereo or something.

They're just .avi files that I "found." I haven't seriously investigated the matter. I do know that neither the Boxee nor PCH has any problem with stuff made with Handbrake, and since I'm doing this as a class and won't exactly be advocating building one's media collection the bittorrent way...

I have an old wide-format Mustek SCSI scanner that only has drivers for Windows 95. It doesn't even install in Win98. It works fine in SANE under Linux to this day.

Good points regarding the Boxee: The remote is excellent. It's small, has only three buttons on one side and a full qwerty keyboard on the other. It has a fast user interface. It hooked in to Netflix with no hassle at all and has a slick UI for presenting content from TV network web sites...

I'm told I saw all the Star Wars movies on opening night, though I don't remember 1977 all that well. I do remember I saw all the rest that way, and I do remember going to a Star Wars revival showing in 1978 or 79. Those movies were highlights of my childhood. A movie that I did not need to see...

Is ESXi 4.1 not free? For the longest time I've just been using the .iso of 3.5 I probably downloaded two years ago. I went and snagged a copy of 4.1 last night and it's telling me it will only run for 60 days with a trial code.

    Keyboards

It looks like a keyboard to me. Keyboards are not hard. You decide if you want one that's clicky or soft, whether you need a big return and backspace, wireless or not and if so, what kind. I almost always buy Logitech, though I'm told that Microsoft is far and away the way to go for standard...

Apple phones legitimately do have better battery life. My phone will standby for a couple days if I don't otherwise mess with it but it runs down to about 1/3 power during an average work day where I actually use it to answer emails and spend my lunch reading Fark or something. But a battery...

That really wouldn't surprise me. Even the super high end cards are only using all that RAM for multi-sampling textures that are getting used over and over. It's not like they actually need to deliver 16Gpbs of output.

    Disk Controllers with 3TB support

My personal winner was the IBM ServerRAID M1015. They're $75 on Ebay, support SAS expanders and 3TB disks, SAS and SATA drives, use a pair of SFF internal connectors and they have hardware support for RAID 0, 1 and 10. That beats the hell out of $400 for a Dell H700.

You also spent somewhere between $150 and $350. For purposes of comparison, I can build a complete budget build machine for $215. You can't go by how much stuff cost when it was new. Genius SW-G2.1 are a 2.1 + control module set of computer speakers that cost $50 or so. I got a couple sets for use in my classrooms and I really can't believe how nice they sound. They look retarded but they sound better than a lot of computer speaker sets that cost three times as much.

They're cheap, plentiful and they play nice with SATA disks and SAS expanders, which I've heard that some RAID cards do not. You can also build an array across multiple cards if you've got 'em. They're a sure bet for a working configuration. It was cheaper for me to get six 8-port Perc5s than...
