    Need some hardware recommendations

Time: I'm just going through all the options. Besides, it sounds like this is some sort of business. You can't make money if your employees are sitting around waiting on the server to come back online. As far a RAID goes, RAID 5 is the most cost effective way of having a large amount of storage...

    Need some hardware recommendations

Actually it sounds like you need to build two servers. They could be run as a cluster ( Sever 2003 needs the corrct hardware for this), distributed file system, or two servers using file replication with one being the backup server. If you need 1Tb of storage space, the cost effective route is...

    Prescott/AMD heat sink

The fan that I used runs at 2700RPM, which is rather quiet. I can also have the motherboard regulate the fan speed based on CPU temperature. I did run F@H for a day but didn't get the memory usage I was looking for. Bozo :mrgrn:

FYI: I recently installed a Thermoright XP-90 with a 92mm Antec fan on one of my Prescott P4s. It reduced the temperature of the P4 by ~14C. This was tested buy running two sessions of Prime95. These heatsinks also fit AMD CPUs. Bozo :mrgrn:

WindowsXP RAID 5 Features Exploited (Warning: THG article!)

Spent a day or so playing with this hack. Observations: I doesn't work well with IDE drives (DUH) Copying the files from 2003 Server don't work, even hacked. The RAID 5 is sloooow. Installing SP 2 wipes out the RAID 5 setup as it overwrites some of the hacked files. After a reboot or cold...

Actually, it wouldn't be 'reverse engineering' but 'forward engineering'. It's something that should have shipped with XP Pro anyway. Copying the files from Server 2003 doesn't work. Also, it doesn't work well with a Promise Ultra 100 and 4 IDE drives either. Bozo :mrgrn:

    Bigger Drives When?

You took my statement bass-ackwards. NTFS is a much more robust system and usually doesn't require a disk check after a crash. One of my test during the XP beta was to copy a large file from one partition to another, and pull the power cord out of the power supply. The system always came back...

    Bigger Drives When?

The one difference that I've noticed between FAT32 and NTFS is the way they handle crashes. If a FAT32 system crashes and it manages to reboot, it usually does a disk check. If a NTFS system crashes, it usually just boots back up. Bozo :mrgrn:

Easy way to fry your new industrial motherboard, SCSI, etc

My worst disaster didn't involve a power supply, but the CPU. I was trying to change the heat sink on a P4 3.0GHz CPU. The original heat sink was installed with a generic white heat sink paste. Apparently it glued the heat sink to the CPU and when I went to pull it off, the CPU came out with it...
