Buy an air compressor. This is what we use at the store. It would be a lot more expensive if we had to waste one or more compressed air cans every time we have to de-dust a computer.

    Codec/Spyware from Hell

The most effiective anti-spyware I've found so far is Spysweeper, by Webroot. Adaware isn't bad either, but Spysweeper often finds additional nuisances that Adaware looked over on the infested machine I threat at work. Spysweeper cost 30U$. You paid for Trend Micro anti-spyware? :rotfl:

Evidently, I will be buying a $100 sound card in 2005

More accurately ,an audio solution with a similar feature to Soundstorm : Dolby Digital 5.1. But the Realtek audio codec should use more CPU cycles than the old Soundstorm south bridge did.

Ramblings on the brands we love (or hate)

My main issue with ASRock is their dumb "Press F2 to enter setup". Why not "Del" like the rest of the world? Except that, the few ASRock boards I've worked on were quite easy to configure and appeared to be reliable. I even recommend them for low-end systems.

Budget enclosures research. Asus and Logisys.

The enclosure we uses the most looks a lot like their SK-337 model. I'll look into Foxconn models. Their TLA-570 (ATX) and TW-01 (µATX) don't look too bad. Hopefully, they have less sharp edges than our most popular chassis.

Budget enclosures research. Asus and Logisys.

The cases we currently sell are, IMNSHO, pieces of crap. They bend in every possible ways when we try to replace the side panel, are made of paper-thin metal sheets and are finger-hazardous areas (I cut my finger badly last Monday). Bottom line : I'm sick of it. Tomorrow, I want to make a few...

    Laptop HDD migration

I did a lot of 2.5" drive backups and copies in the last two weeks. Acronis is great for backups since it can make an image of your drive and send it to a remote backup drive via network (Acronis can use your network card). But for a drive to drive copy, I still prefer Ghost. The other tech...

    Learning wireless...Trendnet stuff sucks.

Well, too bad you're not in Australia : we could have blame it on the hemisphere change. For me, TrendNet is 0 for 2 while SMC has a perfect score so far. One of our routers is a Linksys WRT54G and it seems to work well.

CD emulation software conflict with Call of Duty game.

I googled a little and the issue seems to be over-agressive copy-protection from Activision's games. Basicly, most burning programs installed with the default options will piss off CoD somehow because Activision wants to prevent the user from pirating the game. I'll have to configure its...

    Learning wireless...Trendnet stuff sucks.

Avoid this brand at all cost for wireless devices. Both their routers and their PCI cards (I tried the 423) are flaky and unreliable. I had one on the shelf and I installed it in a customer's PC who wanted to link his machine to an SMC router (the 7004something). While the drivers included...

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

I would be very interested in a 2.5", 60GB+ Samsung drive otherwise similar to the one Aussie Owl linked. That would be great inside an external USB 2.0 enclosure to backup the important data from the customers' hard drive when we wipe/re-install their system. Our current system is more clumsy.

I think all three of your choices won't meet your criteria. Assuming you have a high frequency Athlon 64, all the cards you mentioned will bust 60FPS at 1280x1024, even if push the AA to 4X instead of 2X. For frame rates between 30FPS and 60FPS, you could save 150$ and wait for the GeForce...
