Intel's new microarchitecture: Merom, Conroe, Woodcrest

22% on average, I call that a huge lead for a similarly clocked processor. AMD will need more than just DDR2 to catch up. I doubt the new memory controller will boost them for more than perhaps 5%. The new Crossfire from ATI (RD580) is barely faster than the older RD480, so don't count on...

    Thermaltake Mambo case.

Manufacturer link. How does it compare to an Antec SLK30000B? I have no first hand experience with the Thermaltake chassis, but from the spec., it is lighter, so probably flimsier. The fan is supposed to be more quiet than the one that comes with the Antec. Anyone here has tried the Mambo?

Intel's new microarchitecture: Merom, Conroe, Woodcrest

It is hard to believe. How Intel could have concieved such an efficient processor after having developped utter P.O.S. like anythig on Netburst and the Itanium? AMD made such a convertion when they hired Dirk Meyer in the late nineties to develop the first Athlon core. Maybe Meyer has a...

Tell him that for the amount of time it will take you to do the transfer, you'd have to charge below the minimum wage to do it at a reasonable price. I wouldn't bother. He better ask some student to do it. They'll be more willing than you are to waste their time doing this for peanuts.

Even 500W ain't enough for SLI.

I doubt these upcoming thermaltake PSUs will be as good as Seasonic's, but they have active PFC and hopefully their efficiency will be at least between 75%. That should add another quality product on the market. More choice is better. Thanks for the heads up.

Even 500W ain't enough for SLI.

Well your three spices of life all consume exagerated fuel amounts and they all are very unefficient means of transportation. You can have "spice" and efficiency combined. Or at less reasonable efficiency. A Z06 Corvette consumes barely more than a regular mid-size sedan and I'm sure I could...

A computer that needs a 700W PSU is excessive, unless it's a mainframe or such. SLI and Crossfire shouldn't exist.

Looking for a Québécois who died in Australia.

What is a high temp for an AMD 1800+

It probably throttled back to something like 800MHz when the temperature of the core skyrocketed near 90C. I don't think this has damaged the processor in any way.
