Wow, you've lost 55lbs since two years ago. Congrats. No more than an hour and a half, even with the 8 cells battery. And I had all the above specifications for a decent price, but you all booed me when I told you the brand.

Regarding the Thinkpads...Is the T43 so much better than anything else? I mean, there's a Z series with identical specifications that cost 100$ less. What has the fabulous T43 over the other Thinkpad series, other than hype? And there price difference between the Thinkpad and rest of the...

The cheapest Panasonic Toughbook I can get here is 3000$CAD. I'll pass. How's the screen on your new toy Merc? Is it running hot or is it reasonable (not the screen, the other half of the laptop, I mean)? That same laptop cost 1500$CAD here. That's the very top of my allowed budget.

I've taken a look at the Gateway's. ALL of them have 4200rpm drives. Disapointing. I've found Asus at several places, but most of the models offered are barebones. I presume I would have to buy the CPU/RAM/HD/OS, which makes the overall deal not very competitive with other brands. I agree...

I wouldn't have thought that cows made good computers. I'm no expert in laptops, but I thought HP's business-oriented notebooks (like the NX6110 I linked above) were tougher than their value models. Like Dell's Lattitude versus Inspiron for instance. Am I wrong? According to you, a vanilla...

While I still don't own, or plan to own, a laptop, a couple of my friends would like to get a new one in the upcoming months. Mainly for office work, no great requirements. Not too bulky would be a bonus. 8-9 pounds is too much. I'm looking 7lbs or less. I quickly browsed throuh the...

In the short term, no matter what we'll do, we'll lose positions anyway because the two main teams in our ass are top 20 contenders (perhaps even top 15). If you exclude them, we are doing quite well. In six months, if all things remain the same, we'll get more positions than we'll lose...

I hate XP too. I'm still on Win2K, but Microsoft has already started to limit the updates on it. I would go with Server 2003 if I no longer had extra Win2K licenses. I tried it when it was still in beta and I liked it better than WinXP. Going to Linux will ask you a lot of time to learn how...

127$. And it's based on the older Tornado model, not the same design as the newer S12-500/600. I'm willing to take my chances with the Antec Neo instead. It's 30$ cheaper for the same wattage rating. My motherboard is an Asus P5P800.

I'm thinking about buying an extra PSU, in case this one makes a smoke show. I'm not willing to spend 165$CDN for a Seasonic S12-500 just for a modest system (Low frequency P4, 512MB RAM, 2 HDs, one DVD burner, low power graphic card). Most local stores sale Antec PSUs, but even their...

Well it's lucky for Pamela that her breast doesn't smell as bad as my PSU did. I restarted the system after giving it a little pause. I increased the speed of the exhaut fan (120mm, below the PSU) so less hot air will go through the power supply. I don't know if it's going to work. My system...

    Help w/ high-end PSU

PFC stands for power factor correction. Also, multiple 12V rails is good because it isolates each line, so there's less ripple on the current of each line. When a device draws juice from any given electric line, it creates a distortion. The more devices sucking current, the worst it gets...

Thanks. It looks like a teen/girl chit/chat service. Not my kind of stuff. I find forums more convenient. I'm a poor "live" communicator. My old brain needs time to convert the stuff I think into words. Real-time translation was only at the experimental level in my generation.
