[NEWS] - Western Digital to introduce 72GB Raptor.

So? Are all you speed and capacity freaks happy with this announcement? Personally, I hope they will develop a newer firmware closer to the second one SR reviewed with the 36GB Raptor. Another interesting bit in the original news... W.D. seemed to like IBM's power-on rating. News Source

    OS/2 - I need to get warped.

I need to get a refresh on OS/2 because I might have to use it at work soon and I don't want to look like a noob. Last time I used it was 1996 IIRC. It would be great if I could have a kind of evaluation copy à la Windows .Net Server 2003 beta builds fom earlier this year. Last time I...

[NEWS] - Opteron 248 (2.2GHz) to be released soon

At 2.2GHz, the Opteron (and Athlon 64 FX-51) should give Intel's Pentium 4 3.2GHz a run for its money. I'm still waiting for reports of the Athlon 64/Opteron's performances for Folding@home. I've eeen SETI@home benchmarks, but the Alien-oriented client is very different from the F@h one. A...

Pentium M in µATX form factor

Intel launched a µATX motherboard for its acclaimed Pentium M CPU. Great news IMO, as this is currently one of the most interesting processor on the market. The memory isn't fast though, but still. For a nice low noise/low power office box, this one should be quite competitve. See the...

    [NEWS] - Deathstar fix

It would appear so! Finder's credit goes to forum member 'jamespetts'. In January this year, IBM made available a firmware fix for their infamous "Deathstar" (Deskstar 75GXP and 60GXP) series of hard drives that supposedly significantly enhances the reliability of these drives by moving the...

Chevy Cavalier 2004 (or 2003) : good car?

A Corolla 2004, for instance, would cost me around 60$/month more than the Cavalier and I haven't seen any 0.9% promotion around here for the buyout option. Besides, I don't think I'll buy something before at least November or December.

Chevy Cavalier 2004 (or 2003) : good car?

My current car seems to have been a mistake. While it's not really old, many parts break and I'm starting to be fed up (don't ask, I don't tell what I'm driving now). Sooner or later, knowing myself, I know it will end up in a parking lot at the early morning hours and taste my sledgehammer...

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

IIRC, Gary uses the Supermicro P4SDA+ at work. It isn't not a board having the features you are looking for and its chipset dates a little (it's based on the i845). I don't recall having used Supermicro motherboards, but the Tyan I have tried impressed me by their stability.
