    Suggest a free zip/unzip proggie for W2k

Seeing all those free compression tools, an idea pop'ed in my mind. Why not make a comparative review of all those? By comparing their speed and compression ratio for several types of archive. Testing if their performances vary from a Pentium 4 to an Athlon XP (for possible SSE2 optimisations...

Another reason why I don't like Intel.

In fact, it's the main reason why I prefer not to sell their stuff : strong arming to kill the concurrence. It's ugly, unacceptable, and undefendable. These tactics are ultimately bad for the customers, since they weaken companies with competitve products but lower market share. It's squarely...

    Opteron 240 - in stock at Newegg.com

Right here. 295$ for the OEM version, 315$ for the retail kit. Only the slowest Opteron (1.4GHz), but still. Now the only thing you need is a motherboard to plug it into.

    [SEMI-NEWS] - AMD answers Intel's price cut.

:eekers: Blake, it's greatly time you take a look a a comparative review between a Pentium 4-based Celery and anything else in the same price range. They are only 90% of the power in very few benchmarks (if any) compared to the 512K L2 cache Northwood. Against the Athlon XP, especially the...

[NEWS] - Intel Itanium to be boosted for 32bit applications.

IMO, Intel now slightly in panic mode because of Opteron. I don't think IA-64 will ever be a success if x86-64 offers a decent speed improvement. And that's a good thing. Not because x86-64 is good, but because IA-64 is bad replacement. More infos on News.com

    [SEMI-NEWS] - AMD answers Intel's price cut.

Is anyone surprised? Visit X-bit Laboratories for the details. AMD's slash is just as important, if not more, than Intel's one earlier this week. The two processors that dropped the most are the Athlon XP 3000+ and 2800+, with 45% and 40% reduction respectively. The Celeron looks simply...

    NEC LCD1980SX.

CRTs only have such constrast ratio in relatively dark environments, where they can reach 1000:1. In daylight, they normally fare around 200:1 - 300:1, no more. Contrast ratio isn't one of the flaws that LCDs still have compared to CRTs. Response time and color accuracy, especially when...

[SEMI-NEWS] - Intel swings the axe on Pentium-4 prices.

The price cut, which is steeper than usual for Intel, fixes the oddity with the Pentium 3GHz (so chipzilla restarted to distribute it again). Here's the meat of it : AMD's processors nonetheless remain cheaper than comparable Intel's offsprings. They are simply not as cheaper as they were...

5.7 liters is pretty big. I wouldn't be surprised if it would be rated at something like 13/20Mpg...or less. Two cars that impress me a lot on the HP / fuel rating ratio are the Corvette and the Porsche 911. You get a LOT of power for a relatively moderate fuel consumption.

    Not your Father's Cadillac

The 3.2 liters/6-in-line of the M3 almost certainly is significantly less fuel-ungry than the 5.7 liters/V8 of the CTS. For happy oil-burner rednecks, it might not matter much, but for anyone who's sensible to environment, it is another advantage of the BMW.

AMD to slash prices significantly on April 22nd.

If what I've seen at X-bit Labs is true, then people should refrain from buying an AMD processor at 2000+ rating or above before the end of the month.
