    Thanks for the advice. Regarding stability, I'm used to Windows and Linux, so even FreeBSD 5.0 should be fine compared to what I have already experienced in the past ;-) I mainly use OpenOffice on my Windows box since that's the one where the printer is plugged.

    Is it possible that your new driver is the CATALYST 3.0? If yes, it is supposed to only work in conjonction with DirectX 9.0, which I wouldn't recommend you to install. Use the CATALYST 2.5 instead. It won't fix your Soft DVD problem, but at least it won't create new issues elsewhere.
