    VIA Hyperion 4.45 + CATALYST 2.5 = nice boost.

I would guess so since ATI put a version of the CATALYST 2.5 for the Radeon 7000 on their web site. You can download the CATALYST 2.5 for Radeon 7000 under Windows 2000 by clicking here.

    VIA Hyperion 4.45 + CATALYST 2.5 = nice boost.

I upgraded this evening the VIA 4in1 driver and ATI CATALYST driver on the latest box I built. I ran 3D Mark 2001 build 330 when I had the 4in1 4.43 and CATALYST 2.4 and it gave me a score of 7167 with an ATI Radeon 8500LE 64MB. Now, with the latest version of both drivers, the score has...

I'll soon have the mighty WD600JB in my hands.

Too bad I missed that thread. I wonder if Western Digital really ships some WD600JB with 60GB platters. It might worth trying to play the screwed customer card to get them to ship a "match-expectation" hard drive.

Tom's Hardware guide had a face lift.

IMO, same shit differently. Read their recent article on the SiS648 motherboards? Now they place MSI as the most optimized model and GigaByte among the slowest. Microstar optimized? Old Tom must be looking for new revenue ways in these low advertizement income days. Tom's Hardware is to...

    Phoenix 0.5 released

This Gecko-based browser is supposed to be a lighter version of Mozilla. Release 0.5 takes less memory than the previous releases and it fits in only 6.1MB for the Winblows version. It is pretty fast too. You can get it here (or the Linux version) Learn more about it on their home page.

Why don't mothernboards have built-in RAM?

It might be a good thing to include onboard RAM with the motherboards if it was some kind of low latency, large L3 cache level memory. Much like the L3 of the new dual PowerMAC for instance, but with something like 64MB or 128MB. This is a similar amount of RAM than the one found on many...

Best IDE add-on board (PCI slot)?

You don't remember correctly. Promise controllers, despite all their bugs, are way better than HighPoint's. I think much like Mark on the subject. I don't think it would worth it for your friend to spend big money on a 3Ware controller if he simply wants to add another few non-RAIDed HDDs to...

I'll soon have the mighty WD600JB in my hands.

Read my second post in this thread. The transfer rate is similar to the one of the 180GB & 200GB using 60GB platters. I didn't see the configuration tab though. One way or the other, their spec sheet for the WD600JB is screwed. The advertized transfer rate should be much lower, around...

I'll soon have the mighty WD600JB in my hands.

The drive is indeed quiet. But I am very disapointed with the results. Winbench 99 2.0 show transfer rates similar to those of the 40GB/platter WD800JB instead of something closer to the WD2000JB. Beginning : 49300KB/s End : 28600KB/s Disk Access Time : 13.6 CPU Utilisation % : 0.51 (with...

    AMD CPU Price Drops....When

Barton with 512K L2 cache and 400MHz FSB frequency should be quite a competitor for Intel in the middle-end market. And personally, since the Athlon are way superior to the Pentium 4 in @home applications, they'll will remain my main choice for a while.

I'll soon have the mighty WD600JB in my hands.

Having just a single platter into them must help quite a bit to reduce the heat/noise level for the WD400JB and WD600JB. BTW, I've just received it, but haven't assembled the whole system yet. Expect results for tomorrow. CityK, did you get it from an online store? Or was it just a local shop?

I sell the WD600JB for 165$ CDN, that's around 105U$. Figure out that prices here are typically a bit higher than in the States as the lowest price for the WD800JB here is 192$CDN (123U$). You had a great deal Steve.

I'll soon have the mighty WD600JB in my hands.

Check the advertised transfer rate of the WD600JB compared to the 40/80/120GB models. The 60GB Special Edition is clearly above the others. While I have no proof that it features 60GB platters, the specifications strongly hint that it has higher density platters than the older...
