Talk about a way to destroy my own credibility
DDR has more bandwith per channel (currently 2.1GBps vs 1.6GBps for RDRAM), but as there is no real dual-DDR channel for the Athlon, then the Pentium 4 's Rambus solution wins in the bandwidth department.
Don't worry Mark. HellDiver and I are principally nasty with each other in threads where we are both involve. At least I will try to be nice with you ;-)
The reason behind this is called MARKETING. MHz sells. I doubt a company would be able to make a breakthrough with an optimized 800MHz...
5,450,000 / 5 = 1,090,000
5,450,000 / 4 = 1,362,500
It seems that it's more one on four than one on five to me. Not only are you illiterate, but you don't even know how to count! :P
Sorry, I'm tired.
Hmmm, interesting. There's a report suggesting the AMD Athlon with the Thoroughbred core for notebook has 512K L2 cache. I wonder if it's true or not.
Regarding your spelling mistake, I remarked it first time I read, but that's not why I included it in the quote. And I should have writen...
Because he is english speaking, probably consider himself a Canadian and he has nothing to do with a Québéçois (it's ok for the accents). I don't really care what he is, I just want to be able to sleep at 6h30am in the morning, especially only three days after the time change (my body still...
I prefer 100 posts per page, but I chose 50 because you asked by default and I don't think our forum would be 56K modem friendly with a default setting of 100 posts per page.
Could someone explain me why the damn Mother Queen had to be celebrated at 6h30am Estern Time? One of my neighbor watched the ceremony when it started this morning, but somehow forgot to lower the volume. I was awaken by Gregorian songs in the middle of "my" night. No need to tell you that...
You're pushing a bit don't you? There was a time when the updates of the 4in1 drivers were frequent, but never even once a week as far as I remember. It might have happen that there's been two very close releases, but not twice a week on a regular basis. Or else, we would be far beyond the...
Yes, I learned present perfect, but my problem with it in this present case is that the action of overtaking Microsoft isn't continuing, it's past. We did it. Not long ago, but it's done anyway.
Find me a proper explanation or I'll give up on English and limit myself to the use of a better...
It runs just fine in 800x600x16bit colors on my Athlon 500MHz + TNT2 graphic card. Like most games, you can play even on a moderate system, you'll simply miss some features.
While I like the color better than in Doug's first draft, the font style needs some rework. The letters are so bold that we almost have to guess some of them. If the letter frames were a bit thinner, it would be more readable IMO.
You didn't understand what I meant. I didn't imply that ClawHammer will be using the EV6 bus, I meant that the original Athlon used the EV6 bus and that's why VIA and friends had to make brand new chipsets. Now it's ClawHammer's turn to shuffle the standards, so VIA and all its Taiwan brothers...
I searched your username on the Genome@home web site and I ended up with this. I don't think it's you because you certainly didn't start back in January. Something must be misconfigured with your client.
You should close the client, run the user info configuration and re-enter your data again...
You still have 7 sequences to compute before completing your protein. When you'll be done, your name should appear (within a day) in our team stats page.
What's your username by the way? My guess is that it's Cliptin, but who knows.
I didn't read your last post before I replied.
Are you sure that you have entered the correct team account number for the client? Unless your computers are very, very old, you should have already sent a few units for us since you started.
But, thinking about it, "overtook" should be right. I mean, we aren't "overtaking them", we did it. So it's part of the past and therefore "overtook" is the correct tense, isn't it?
6 hours ago, when we were still behind them but we were sure to pass them in the near future, I would have...
I was just trying to show my cultural identity difference to all of you ;-)
Seriously, we should be allowed to ask for a correction by the moderator when we make horrible spelling mistakes like this one. I don't mind if it's a mod who corrects it, as long as it disapears.
Of course, I'm speaking about our Genome@home team ;-)
You can see the official team ranking here. We are currently 193rd, just in front of team Microsoft.
Commandor Coug (commandor now since former captain Douglas sky rocket career jump valued him to be promoted to the rank of General) wants to know what's the reason of the poor enthousiasm showed by rookie soldier Prof.Wizard. Even the inconsistent soldier CougTek 2 is now looking as a good...
I just remarked the hour of the forum hasn't been adjusted yet. I thought this stuff could be set to automatically change to adapt to the summer and winter time. I guess I consider little Windows commodities a given even for the Unix world.
7h49am, not too bad considering the hour change hun?
Thanks for the explanation about Lest.
No need to define "irreverant". Irreverant is the same as the french word "irrévérencieux" and I don't need a dictionary to tell you that. So in case you ever need to plug that term in a french...
Too bad I missed that one. I'll make an effort this week to wake up early and give Bill a bit of competition.
It's true that morning is a great part of the day. I love to drive early in the week-end, around 6am when I'm almost alone on the highway. Watching the Sun rise with a coffee cup...
Misbehave, hummm.....Well, luckily for you, there happens to be a thread in the Computer forum where both I and HellDiver currently participates so maybe I could...;-)
Regarding the support to computer-clueless people ; I don't know for you guys but there are few things I find more boring than...
I didn't know Barton was rumored to be cancelled. Thanks for bringing this info.
I don't think the problem with the Athlon's L2 cache is that it's slow. It is fast, but it is too narrow (accessed only in 64bits compared to Intel's 256bits bus). I agree that enlarging the bus to L2 cache...
Great arguments about Business Winstone Liam. Nope it's not perfect, but if it tests the applications that most ZNet's readers use, then it's better than many other benchmarking tools. I wouldn't believe its ranking blindly though.
I'm not informed enough about BAPCo's SysMark to state an...
Hi,
As a follow up to this article at Anandtech that many if not all of you have already read, I would like to hear your comments about the benefits of Hyperthreading, as implemented by Intel within the latest Xeon.
According to what I read, Hyperthreading was pretty much the answer of Intel...
My current computers are built exactly the opposite way as Buck described they should. They all have only 256MB of RAM (which is scarce by today's standards), but fast processors. However, I use them for crunching the Genome@home and therefore they are optimized for it. I agree though that an...
I think you would have much better luck to find an answer in the Genome@home discussion group than here. From what I understand, the Genome Project does the same thing as the Folding Project, but in the inverse order. The Folding analyses existing proteins in order to find how they were formed...
Their related survey about user appreciation of their puny Analyser is laughtable. Both their last questions start by "What did you like..." What about what I didn't like?
Pathetic way to show their POS Analyser receiving only good comments. I wrote them what I didn't like and if they aren't...
Hmmm...I thought that you were doing it this afternoon as I haven't been able to access the site from noon till about an hour ago. I hope everything will go well during the update.
