Is there a way to shut up Jason for a while?

Gendarme is spelled correctly, but the "gendarmes" only exist in "La France". Here they are called "policiers" (policemen). Who writes the e-mail? (looking at others)

Is there a way to shut up Jason for a while?

First, I'm not French, I'm Québécois. You speak english, are you British? About me being rude, well, if I don't express my opinion, no one else will. Besides, in real life, I take it as a compliment to be called "rude". _______________________________________________________ I agree that...

WD drive with 8MB cache - is the hype justified?

I have both an Atlas 10K III and a Cheetah X15-36LP, but they are now both to rest because the motherboard I used them on is R.I.P. and past its warranty. I didn't used them in very intensive tasks so its hard to tell if the Cheetah was all that much quicker than the Atlas. I had an odd...

    New front page

Xoops was less bogus than plain php-NUKE on which it is based. I noticed Mozilla 0.9.8 isn't displaying the front page very well compared to other browsers. I don't know what's wrong with it. (note to Doug, I'm talking about the layout of the page, not the "refresh page" non-issue).

Is there a way to shut up Jason for a while?

Hi, Like a bunch of you, I'm fed up of Jason's omnipresent (or invasion) of Storagereview forum. It's well passed the "if you don't like it, just don't read it" stage. It's not possible anymore to avoid his posts : THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!!! If I want to read CNN news, I'll go at www.cnn.com...

    Soltek SL-75ERV

Most of the overclocking and tweaking options are in the BIOS rather than being only adjustable with the onboard DIP switch like the previous KT266A motherboards from Soltek (the 75DRV2 & 75DRV4). The SL-75DRV4 already had the VT8233A south bridge with the ATA133 support.

    Epox vs Soltek

If I was Mercutio, I would say that it's probably the fault of the NVIDIA card ;-) I can't speak for the ECS K7S6A (the one with the SiS745 chipset), but I only have good words for the ECS K7S5A (the SiS 735 one). Do you have the latest BIOS and SiS AGP driver? I think their AGP driver is...

    Thinking about an MSI board...

Indeed, the link you provided shows TSOP memories rather than µBGAs. Oh well, maybe they'll be reliable anyway, even if we'll have to use RAM-sink over them to prevent them to fry :(

    Thinking about an MSI board...

The EPoX KT266A motherboard have problems with their implementation of the AGP slot. There are too tall capacitors around the slot and that makes it problematic to insert some graphic cards, like some of the latest GeForce 4 IIRC. Otherwise, the EPoX EP-8KHA is a very good board. I don't...

About the Genome@Home thing, I dunno how to create a team. The only thing I found to customize my account ask me for a username and a team #, not a team name. It would be great if we could create a StorageForum.net team. For now, I only run the Genome@Home on a single system (Athlon XP...

The SiS745 chipset is barely faster than the SiS735. I wouldn't buy it. If you want a cheap mobo, buy the SiS735, if you want something with higher performances, go for a KT266A with the VT8233A south bridge or a KT333 or the Asus K7N266 (nForce 420 chipset).

    Why can't we "pm" ourselves?

Hard to tell. The entire communication industry (Nortel/JDS Uniphase/Cisco/Cienna) is stagering these days. I play a bit with Nortel. Last week, the market was mostly on the rise, but NT/CSCO/JDSU/CIEN didn't increase at all. I guess they will end up to increase somewhat in the upcoming two...

Middle term, I would say AMD. They are currently pretty low at around 14$ and they usually reach 30$ at a given moment every year. I cannot predict future, so I don't know if they'll do it again this year, but I expect them to do so. Their company is financially healthy and they keep winning...

They probably use an ECS P6S5AT motherboard. It's the only one I know that uses the SiS63X chipset. I'm glad to see that this motherboard is stable enough to be used in a server box. It only cost ~55U$ btw. Proof that quality doesn't always come at a cost.

The Athlon XP are fine with the ECS, there's only problems with Thunderbird clocked at >1Ghz. Of the three CPUs you mentioned, only the Athlon 1.4GHz would have to be avoid when paired to an ECS K7S5A.

The future of storage technology ?

I wasn't necessarily refering to Compact-Flash memory when I wrote "very dense non-volatile memory-based storage device". There are other technologies in development that feature a more acceptable troughput than compact-flash memory. Holographic-type of storage devices aren't slow IIRC. It's...

Just beware of not mixing Thunderbird at +1GHz with the ECS K7S5A and you won't have any problem with it. There is an issue between this motherboard and the +1GHz Thunderbird causing odd troubles. Some bcome unstable, others (like the one I had) need seveal attempts to power on, although it...
