    Looking for HD and CD-RW

The Mitsumi 32/12/48 cost below 100U$ and it also supports Mt.Rainier technology. In fact, it's the fastest Mt.Rainier writer on the market. It's slightly slower to burn CD-R than other 32x burners, but only the CyberDrive similar model is faster to write CD-RW medias. If I had to upgrade a...

    SuSE 8.0

I doubt I'll see anything close to BeOs in the rest of my life. Too fast to be true. Too fast for people with no clue. Just too bad its creators weren't as good at advertising their OS as they were to build it up. Ah BeOS.....

The folding and genoming projects will soon merge together so there's no reason to create an additional team IMO. The Genome@home 2.0 client will match both projects as you can read just here. BTW, we are now ranked 600th as a team among the whole 1169 teams participating in the Genome@home...

Has this site been slow recently?

I've been unable to access the site for a good part of the afternoon and the evening. So far for the supposed better uptime your provider told you about :( But as it's free, we can't complain much. One home accessible 90% of the time is still better than no home at all.

    SuSE 8.0

It's hard to think anything about it when we have no clue what's new it's gonna offer. A link to the press release is always appreciated when a product announcement is posted on the forum. I'm not as eager to see SuSe 8.0 in particular as I am to try KDE 3.0 that'll come at the same time.

Opinions wanted about NIKAO Noblesse enclosure.

Depends on the implementation. The drive rails of the Antec are fine, although the plastic tend to erode quickly when you take a drive in or out too quickly. The drive rails of the CasEdge enclosures is also supposed to be superior. But like you guys, I have my basket of horror stories about...

What Drive is this ? Generic branded QUantum

AFAIK, NEC has left hard disk drives business a few years ago, which is a good thing IMO because their drives were about as reliable as IMB 75GXP. Toshiba sells 2.5" notebook drives and I think their products are pretty good. They don't sell desktop drives anymore. I never saw a Sony HDD...

    Video Cards - Your Thoughts

Recently, I've had very good experience with the ATI Radeon 7500. At the time it was introduced, that card wasn't very interesting due to its poor driver optimizations. But now, ATI finally managed to write some half-decent drivers and the Radeon 7500 is about as fast in 3D as a GeForce 2Ti...

Opinions wanted about NIKAO Noblesse enclosure.

What did you find so wrong with the case? No drive-rails? Here, it cost the same as an Antec SX-1000 without the PSU. While the Antec enclosure is a bit better overall if you consider all the features it has (drive-rails, plastic fan ducks, better mecanism to remove the door), the SX-1000 is...

Opinions wanted about NIKAO Noblesse enclosure.

I found a review of that enclosure here. Although the reviewer was a bit too enthousiast about it to my taste, it sure looks like a very good enclosure nonetheless. It's not manufactured by NIKAO, only distributed by them. GMC (not the trucks) makes them. And it doesn't wait 20lbs but 28lbs...

    Fastest platform to compute Genome@home?

I'm talking about PC setups here. Anyway, I'm not sure that Cray computer has a very good perf/power consumption ratio compared to a bunch of regular PCs put together. I might be wrong though.

    Fastest platform to compute Genome@home?

Hi, I'm trying to find what platform has the best performance to power ratio to run the Genome@home project. What I mean is : which setup calculates the maximum amount of G@h units per Watt dissipated. Would it be a dual-Tualatin setup? A dual-Athlon MP setup? A dual-Duron setup? I don't...

Mark, You should try to learn Espanol. It's supposed to be a lot easier than Russian, any asian-based...and French. Not as simple as English though. And it's the second-most widely used language on the planet. What was your idea to begin with the easiest of them all? Of course any other...

MS - SMT means mo' money!

Doug, Unfortunately, I don't have any account with Paypal and my past negative experiences with them don't incite me to open one either. I found the case for 90$CDN instead of 100$. I'm tempted, but I have other things with a higher priority on my purchase list. And the market dropped this...

Another interesting housing for m-ATX systems : Enlight EN-7600. Unlike most small form factor enclosures, this one has good theoretic airflow with possibly two 92mm fans. It's not available in my area, but I point it out for others who might be interested to build a small box system.

Opinions wanted about NIKAO Noblesse enclosure.

There are unfortunately very few cases capable of holding 120mm fans. I'm talking about mod-free enclosures. I don't understand why the manufacturers don't introduce more of them. The 120mm fans produce more airflow and less noise than several smaller fans. And I presume the enclosures would...

What Drive is this ? Generic branded QUantum

It might be a POS if you only consider the performances, but the LCT were quite reliable IIRC. Besides, it must not have been such a bad drive cause Seagate almost copy/paste the idea with their U-series (which aren't any faster than your 40$ Quantum). And there are people who buys Seagate's...

Opinions wanted about NIKAO Noblesse enclosure.

Hi, I saw that enclosure on sale on my pricelist and I wonder if it would be as good as a similarly priced Antec SX830? It sure looks nice (at least IMO) and if it weights 20lbs without the PS, it must not be flimsy. And the 11 bays would be great for my server. It must not be as functional...
