I think there's enough big business interests on the Democrat side (primarily from unions of supporting industries) that even the party with a shred of rational thought won't go for something like Kyoto unless someone finds a way to monetize the shit out of carbon trading *and* major industries...

    Fun with Notebooks

Also: That 22 month old Gateway died, but I also have four perfectly functional IBM notebooks (the oldest one is *eight*, newest about nine months old) and two Dell Latitudes (the newest ones is four years old, a D505, I think). I would just like to say that this says a lot about the difference...

    Fun with Notebooks

More necro-posting! My Gateway MX7515 died today. Specifically, the Radeon X600 crapped out, and it does funky things whenever it's in any kind of graphics mode other than 80x24 text. I thought I might be able to replace RAM and get it back to working order, but no, it has discrete memory...

    MP3 Player (what to buy)?

That device looks and has capabilities that are awfully similar to my phone, including the touchscreen and microSD support. My phone retails for $500. Makes me wonder how much of my phone's price is in the Windows mobile license; 64MB RAM, the radio transceivers and the CPU certainly don't add...

There should be pretty detailed howtos for everything you want to do. It's mostly just a matter of figuring out what steps you need to take and repeating them. More fun: Configure Squid + SquidGuard (content monitoring) ClamAV (Virus Detection) SSH endpoint Asterix (PBX)

There should be some kind of preconfigured package for Apache/MySQL/php that already has everything working. I don't see Spamassassin on that list anyplace, and if you're doing a mail server, you'll want it. Also, some kind of IMAP server (Dovecot, probably).

Try phpLDAPadmin. Makes sense to manage your database from a browser anyway. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish in doing server-y stuff on one of the most obnoxiously desktop-focused Linux distros there is - but that's up to you. As far as structuring your directory, it's rare for...

    Maxtor Drives Still??

The stuff I read indicates that Maxtor as a brand will continue to exist for the foreseeable future as Seagate's budget line, similar to how Mercury = budget Ford. vi makes plenty of sense if you understand where it came from. 25 years ago, a multiuser terminal system generally would not have the RAM to allow dozens of people access to full screens of text, so a text editor operated one line at a time. The standard editor was called 'ed' and was basically...

Put the PC on your second router's DMZ. 2. Plug the PC into the semi-public network. 3. Create a Virtual...
