Barracuda ES, worth the price over 7200.10?

It probably helps a lot that I order in much larger volumes than most people but I don't really have reason to complain about Newegg's packing. They've sent me some hilarious recycled boxes, though.

Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo and Sam Brownback placed second, third and fourth in today's Iowa Straw Poll. Guliani and McCain didn't even register a single percentage point. On one level, that is positively horrifying, because those men who came out strongest are essentially the absolute most...

Those tools don't exist yet as far as I know. You live with ~25GB of files for a movie and you like it. Especially when the movie is "Serenity", which is the entire reason I bought an HDDVD player.

Stardust is very easily the best movie I have seen this year. Princess Bride with a bit more fantasy. Dark Crystal but for grown-ups. More romantic and funny than the Lord of the Rings movies. Really a superb movie. Just exactly right in tone.

    Apple makes the hate list

Every time I've ever called Microsoft, they've told me one of two things: "You're running an unsupported configuration" or "That's a vendor-specific/service provider issue." What I've learned to do is to be very cautious about doing anything on a Windows server. If I'm not exactly sure what I'm...

    Cellular Internet Service

A few weeks ago I got an HTC 6800 (Sprint calls it a "Mogul") and Sprint's utterly uncapped SERO data service plan (no bullshit Verizon "unlimited but only 5GB a month" deal). $30 a month for phone and data and my tests say I get about 750kb/sec downloads from my personal web server. I could...

Any Good free DVD creating software?

There are several different versions of Roxio. The more common ones don't support making DVD-Video discs. Anyway, I suspect that there are a minimum of free DVD authoring tools simply because DVD Video is encumbered with licensing costs at virtually every step of the process.

You're doing it wrong. There's lots of ways to make a quiet home theater setup but I think you're pursuing the wrong avenue. 1. You're playing back movies. Storage does not need to be local for that. Capture is a different story, but these days a crappy little 2TB array will last years if...

Eugenics was an idea that had a great deal of traction among the intelligentsia in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It wasn't all Nazis. I've sincerely enjoyed everything Judd Apatow has ever done. Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, the Cable Guy, Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up are all wonderful films. Verizon and Sprint both offer a Cellular-based data service called EV-DO. Speeds are supposed to be pretty quick for wireless - around 700kb/sec and prices are not unreasonable ($50/month). Has anyone tried these services? Do they work all over the place or just in certain areas? Are speeds...
