copy from PATA to SATA disk uses 70% CPU

Clocker & Merc: Can you tell us how Windows sees your SATA controller / drives? What Bozo said makes perfect sense.

copy from PATA to SATA disk uses 70% CPU

I think people with SATA ports have had mixed success with that tool. I have a Promise Ultra 100 that Windows sees as a SCSI controller, and I get an error too (probably the same one, I don't remember). My understanding is that if the SATA (and in my case Promise) driver does not conform...

copy from PATA to SATA disk uses 70% CPU

Could this be the old W2k / Wxp / W2003 "SCSI bug"? AFAIK, SATA controllers are treated as SCSI controllers in Windows. It could be the non-cached writes to the SATA drive that's the culprit. Post #138 in this thread at the other place has some info, and post #146 has a link of where to find it...

    Poll: second-worst hard drive

First, it's not a she, it's a middle-aged he. Many people I know are incredibly cheap. In a nutshell, they want a Mercedes, but are only willing to pay a Hyundai price. How do you satisfy these people? This deal (Athlon 3000XP, 256MB, 40GB Samsung, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, USB/FW, on-board audio &...

Sorry to hear of the problems with the 2005FWP, Clocker :( I'd presume that the 22" with 20" viewable would have a wider bezel?

External enclosure and delay write failed

All good cables, whatever type (USB, FW, etc.) seem to have the choke (the tubular, bulbous thing normally found on analog video cables) at least at one end. Even the retail pack of a cheapo 64MB flash drive I bought had a 3 ft. USB extension cable with the choke at one end. I just checked my WD...

I didn't vote. I've owned many WDs, Maxtors, Quantums, one IBM and most recently, one Seagate. None, repeat none, have failed. So I don't know what to say. I'll just go with the great seers here, and buy a Samsung next time. Or a Hitachi if I need the capacity.

From Ben's Bargains: In this thread, Fushigi seems to be happy with his Netgear WGTB511T 108 Mbps. (Last update March 12, 2004) But in this thread, Handruin is quite frustrated with his Netgear WGTB511T 108 Mbps. (Last update Aug. 25, 2004) Merc has recommended Netgear in Fushigi's thread...

    Storing Data DVDs

Sleeves in a binder that's closed with a zipper that runs all around. I've read complaints about CrapUSA's CD sleeves that scratch pretty badly. AFAIK, Case-Logic stuff is good.

    Storing Data DVDs

I have a couple of high-capacity (~248) Case-Logic CD binders. Can I store DVDs in them too? This may seem like a silly question, but since DVDs have much smaller "pits", I'm concerned that repeated insertion into the sleeves may render them unusable. Thanks.

    Back aches

I really wish they made them like this when we bought our bed :( I did notice yours is a King Koil. I wonder if the usual culprits - Sealy, Serta, SpringAir, which seem to be the most common out here in S. CA, have changed their flip-n-rotate policies as well.

Our bed has a 20-year warranty (or had). We bought a top-of-the-line consumer King mattress (Sealy or Serta) for $1400 ~ 9 years back. You're supposed to flip it frequently, which is a real nightmare to do with a king. Treatments are bandaids unless you address the root cause. Bad posture is often to blame.
