    Business Week on Newegg

Newegg's packing can be inconsistent. I haven't had cause to complain about the way they ship hard drives (and I buy lots of them!), but just a couple minutes ago I got a box with a couple video cards, some modems and a whole lot of mice, that was only half-filled with peanuts. Plenty of room to...

    Preferred Shoebox

Does anyone have any strong feelings one way or the other about any variety of Shoebox computer? Shuttle? Aopen? Has anyone tried the small "cube" cases that accept a standard u-ATX board? Am I going to be able to get away with a midrange gaming card (X800GT) in one of those things?

Magpie is an awesome tool, and it's written by Bed Goodger. You know, the Firefox project manager? The man clearly understands the needs of those of us who enjoy downloading the porno. Noscript is essentially a quick javascript toggle. I don't install it because I'm worried about security. I...

    Rechargeable wireless optical mice

There's a program to fix the F-key thing on more retarded Logitech keyboards That kind of crap is why I only buy low-end Logitech keyboards. Also, I am not sure it was clear from my previous post: I use rechargeable NiMH batteries in a non-rechargeable cordless trackball. The charger that...

I put some information up on a personals site today. This one is free and supposedly uses the quantative values of tests to determine possible personality matches. I guess I did it because I wanted to be extra-special humiliated, 'cause that's what I get. A "match", for this site, is someone...

I can't get Gateway's drivers for the Broadcom Wireless-G card to work on my MX7515. But I found some for an Acer Aspire 3000 that worked just fine the first time I tried them. notebookforums.com suggests that lots of people have problems loading drivers for sound, modem and wireless on that...

    Laptop bags

I am surprised that the laptop-enabled among us don't have stronger opinions about carrying cases. And these days, I don't know if a backpack really is unprofessional. Who still wears a jacket and tie that might get wrinkled by a strap?

    Business Week on Newegg

The other side to that is, every once in a while I need to cancel an order and find out that I can't because it's already on the truck. Monitors, (non-Soltek) motherboards and cases are the only things I buy locally with any regularity. Newegg serves for everything else.

Since we've just had a long thread about cheapo laptops, I wonder: Does anyone have any particularly strong feelings about the bag your laptop goes in? The reason I switched from Moz to Firefox is that several must-have extensions are Firefox only. I don't know where Tannin gets his "dumbed down" opinion - the UI is clearly better than Opera (then again, what isn't?) and almost everything can be modified or customized to one's approval.

    Portable Digital Audio Player

I got to play with a video ipod today. The main thing that doing so did, was show me the weaknesses inherent in iTunes. iTunes is god-awful. You can't just copy files to an ipod through a file manager. Nope. God forbid you plug one in to a computer with a different library.
