Would everyone like to have Avatars hosted here?

Pbbbbbt to both of you. Like I'd share the porn I've acquired with you people. ... and to be honest, probably 99% of the images I have are Playboy-type copyright violations, not the stuff like in the pornospam ("Shaved Bank Tellers" et al) we all get. I think any image I might have would more...

Would everyone like to have Avatars hosted here?

I'd have to vote "No". If they're hosted onsite it's a lot harder for me to filter them out without getting rid of everything else from SF.net. But I have a pretty good image I'd use if someone else would like to host it. :)

My first few hours with XP

Prof - The only one that I've found so far is the "Prevent MS-DOS programs from Detecting Windows" .PIF setting. That and the obvious defect that is XP Home (no domain logon). After turning off absolutely ALL the interface fluff, except AA fonts, I finally got a satisfactory speed in UI...

My first few hours with XP

Well, I took some hints and pulled messenger off my machine. OE is still there, offending me with its offensiveness. I'm not sure why it's there at all. My Win98 machine - and I did an upgrade install - didn't have IE at all. I guess the IE6 installer wasn't smart enough to do a minimal install...

Don't get make me get out my bag, Prof. ;) Seriously, there's no resaon for us to change. StorageForum is good. Most of us remain SR regulars. We have common interest in storage, and frankly, every variant on "extreme", "tech", and "hardware" has already been taken.

My first few hours with XP

Fed up with crappy FAT32, I switched my game machine to WinXP Pro last night. Machine specs: Athlon T-bird @ 1.5GHz, Epox 8KHA, ATI Rage Pro VIVO, 512MB PC2100 RAM, (2) Maxtor DM 40+ 40GB. Some thoughts, in no particular order: 1.) Cracking PA was embarassingly easy. Thanks to James for...

    XP + SBLive

None, now. I just remembered that for the longest time Win2000 didn't support digital out on SB Live. Since the machine I'm installing to is connected to around $2000 worth of stereo equipment, and another $3000 worth of monitor/projector, I'd be slightly peeved if I couldn't use the digital...

    Ancient History: Microsoft and UNIX

I picked this up off Slashdot this afternoon. Xenix was the first OS I ever used, so there were, um, memories (I won't pretend they're good ones) for me. I figure some of you young bucks might be entertained to read this stuff. And yes, I'm 26. "Young" is subjective. It means "for those of...

    HP DVD100i DVD+RW drive for $339!

DVD-R and DVD+R are different technologies. Supposedly DVD+R is the format that will work with the most standalone DVD players. I think Panasonic is making a DVD burner that supports both writeable and rewritable DVD formats, at the cost of CD burning support. That seems like the model to watch.

    Mozilla 0.9.8

Mozilla is my browser of choice and has been since preview-releases in the mid-teens. Killer features like image blocking decide it for me, but the ability to use a standard "bookmark.html" file are also big contributing factors. For those that haven't tried it, Mozilla is Netscape6+ with all...

General question, mostly for LAN Gamers...

The clear answer is "maybe". There are some pretty stiff requirements for doing it "right" - broadband, reasonably high-end PCs, RELIABLE SYSTEMS and a good selection of the software people actually want to use as a group. Where I live, I've seen low-end no-pay setups for gaming in comic...

    Looking for HD and CD-RW

It would help if WD would tell us when changeovers like that occur. I really don't like their naming system, simple as it is. Maxtor mostly does the same thing - their retail packaging can include "same model or better", but WD's nomenclature means that anything with a 40GB capacity and 7200rpm...

    Looking for HD and CD-RW

I don't know. I bought a retail-boxed 400BB from the local Best Buy in January of this year and installed it in a machine I sold pretty much right away. I really don't have access to the drive any more to look, either. :(

I've only used a 40BB once in a customer machine. WD isn't exactly my favorite drive company, although I recognize they have gotten a lot better. My preference for the Maxtor 740x (and, to a lesser extent, the Quantum AS) was unchanged after playing with a WD400BB. Take that however you want...
