I have taken to having iced tea with red wines and frozen thin mint girl scout cookies with scotch. Both sound strange but pair very well. do you guys have any odd pairing habits?

If you want a flat tax with a progressive effect that is easy to calculate, make it a wealth tax. Bottom 20% won't pay anything (due to negative net worth), top 20% responsible for 50%+. Want to lower your tax burden? Put that money back into the economy.

It is safe to assume that full functionality on Google services will always be available on a PC. PCs aren't that much more than an STB. The pain of dealing with an STB is not worth it.

Last year just for grins I tried doing my own taxes before sending the paperwork to my accountant. He saved me at least double his fees compared to my math. For those with larger amounts of money on the line, you might consider a particularly good accountant a reasonable investment.

    Cheap Power Supply

I would love to have an answer to this as well. In situations where reliability is critical and some component has a wall wart, I've been known to put in mid-range scientific power supplies.

I'd have to go back and check, but it was pretty darn good. The shot was steady even slower, but the subject was moving. I have no idea how to accurately test the effectiveness of IS to that level of accuracy.

100-400II is amazing (particularly on a crop body) even with the 2x extender on it. Moderate indoor lighting is still enough to hand hold 400x2 f11 @ 16000 ISO and get a usable image. Amazing image stabilization.

Cat5e vs Cat6 for new home

There were times pre-kid (mostly pre-wife) that I considered a quick round of the country to visit the regulars just because. I'm still game, but responsibilities would make it difficult.

In either case the cable is not the majority of the cost. Patch panels and keystones can cost that much, and the labor (if contracted out) will likely be more than that by a good margin.

Not multiple humans, just viewed from further away. The 32" is close enough that the only room on the desk in front of it is the keyboard. If I had something in the 40"@5k range I could move it to the back of the desk and have more work space.

A look at proper ceiling insulation for central CA. 1/2" sheetrock, 3" of spray foam adhered directly to the rock/joists/cans/ducts, topped by 9" of fiberglass. The foam added to the rigidity enough to provide significant soundproofing as well.

This makes me glad that I'm not an AT&T customer

Comcast in my neighborhood runs on poles behind the property. The coax comes directly from the pole to the attic in the back of the house. The speed a cable modem can achieve is limited by the signal to noise ratio on the line, normal installations that include hundreds of feet of cable...

My current plans for our next house (when the kid moves out) is just under 1,000 square feet without any compromises to quality of life. Of course, that doesn't include the 1,500 sq.ft. for garage/shop/off-grid utilities, but that is low-cost space.

24/1.4 has been my favorite lens for nearly a year. Easy to compose and easy to make pretty pictures. One of the big reasons for going from the 7D to the 7DII was the faster and more accurate autofocus. The hit rate @ f1.4 has at least doubled.

    Cruise ship with kid?

Carnival doesn't have the best reputation, but they are also a victim of statistics. First company I looked at was Disney. Unfortunately, they don't have a cruise we are interested in at the time window we have. Nope. Frankly, I'd consider them my competition on that end of the market. I just sell Lenovos to most of my customers, but on the really high-end I still build myself. My markup is roughly in-line with them, but their fit and finish looks quite impressive (provided their customer units look...
