    Something Random

The one I am in now is a 1444SF 3BR/2BA 1960 fixer-upper on a 60x100 lot in a decent neighborhood of an OK town 15 minutes from the ocean. $269k. There are unaffordable areas that I would love to live in (Professorville comes to mind - Just this lot is $6M), but that isn't all there is.

Yup. Zero point going BR on an SD TV.

    question Larger TVs

The only non-computer-attached BR player I have is a PS3. From what I've heard, it loads movies faster than most players and isn't even particularly expensive. That it can also stream from Netflix/Pandora/local media files is a bonus. Oh, and you can even play games on it.

I really don't understand why people with a choice live somewhere it snows. Visiting the snow is one thing, but doing it every day on purpose? 69F and sunny here, BTW.

Still planned to be a CAT5 with 300km/hr at landfall, at high tide. That is going to be messy.

I think this is quite significant. Error recovery is one thing, but this also gives the drives more time to spin up and initialize then RAID controllers typically do.

Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

Buck, I'm aware of this note by drive manufacturers wanting some more money, but in the past, any old SATA drive would work in RAID5 arrays of 10 disks or more without issue. I'm wondering if the manufacturers are now doing something to break this functionality?

problem Computer crash when processing large amounts of data

The standard is 1.5v, though every module I've purchased has specified 1.65v on the packaging and in the XMP memory profiles. Typically all I need to do is go into the BIOS and enable XMP.

    Easy Video Camera System

Currently looking at this one. They say it includes "Pixela Video Browser Software" which can edit AVCHD files and transcode for YouTube. Though it doesn't say anything about DVD authoring.

    Easy Video Camera System

How about from a hardware standpoint? HD isn't an issue at the moment, and a recording duration of even 6 hours would be plenty. Though if HD is available without much additional cost, it would be a no-brainer. Something with decent optics and a bit of a zoom would be fantastic.

problem Computer crash when processing large amounts of data

I would have mentioned RAM voltage earlier, as I had a similar issue, but in your post above you mention 1.65v. In every machine I've tried, the RAM defaults to 1.5v which simply isn't stable at higher capacities.

    Easy Video Camera System

I have a client that isn't particularly computer savvy, but has a need to shoot video, edit it, and either burn it to a DVD or post it on YouTube. The only editing they'll need to do is trim a clip and/or spice several clips. At the moment, they have a Sony DCR-DVD403 that uses the little DVD...

:p Edit: It is actually pretty fitting. I'm a 100% convert; no system I build gets a spinning platter for the OS/Apps. Only if their needs are 1TB+ does a HDD go in at all.

When I lived 100m from work, I could get away with one decent system. Now I live 30km+ from work, so I need a machine at home. Then I decided that I needed two gaming machines at the house, for when friends come over and we want to do battle. I also have a pair of force-feedback wheels and...

    iPad: any experience?

I'm responsible for the support of over a dozen of them. The user is happy or not along a very clear line: Happy: Surfing, reading, games, music. Mostly from home. Unhappy: Trying to do office/laptop stuff with it, trying to carry it around regularly.

My first instinct is a slightly goofy PSU. I would second an Ubuntu LiveCD; it is super easy, and copying information is also simple. Motherboard would be a maybe, but PSU first.

Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

I'm in the process of dumping my WHS as well. Considering it can't handle my new 3TB drives, it isn't worth the hassle. The one thing I really liked about it was My Movies automated ripping and indexing of movies. I'm going to miss that.

    Any old Miniscribes?

I'm afraid I don't go back that far. Just looking around, the prices are up there ($300+). How tricky would it be to modify the system to operate on newer hardware?

I've been happy with their cables. That should have read "up to 20lbs next day for $5". The one trick with them is that their shipping cutoff is 6AM :( Order Saturday night and you'll get it Tuesday.
