It would be a replacement for my current 18-55 (non-IS). It is a great general purpose "walk around" lens, the IS would help because these are all handheld shots. The 10-22 is the next lens on the list. I'm trying to put together a list of lenses I want in Russia, so far it looks like this...

No prices and no info about what product they are re-branding. Those specs match the MTron MSP-7000. OCZ's last SSD (saw it at a couple stores) matched the MSD-6000. I think MTron is trying to find a brand name to market with.

I don't think it matters what the people think; the press seems to be in his corner. I do think I prefer him at the moment...though not strongly enough to really care.

I don't need 21 or 24. But I do like to have prints in the 24x36 range, and 15MP is plenty for that.

I have fallen for 1920x1080. I was totally with Tony and Merc about 4:3 ratio displays, but they just don't come this big (42"). And to be honest, 1080 vertical resolution is enough for most anything.

Back when I was into hardcore silent computing, I ran CrystalCPUID with 3 different speed/voltage settings...none of the reporting tools could keep up.

Well, I turned mine down to 3Ghz so it was stable in AutoGK. It does report the right speed in Windows, and did @ 3.8Ghz as well.

Finally got around to ordering... 3x 16GB MTRON MSD-6000 3.5" Since I have a significant number (10) of free SATA ports (6 on-board and 4 more in the RAID card), I might as well go for higher STR... I wonder if this card will do online expansion of RAID0 arrays...

Now I'm @ 3.2Ghz and a minor vCore adjustment. I may hold off until I get a better heatsink; the core just ticked past 70C.

Yup. Stock cooling and no vcore. It was actually getting to the desktop and idling fine @ 3.8. All the tests and games do just fine @ 3.5, but XviD seems to be unhappy. Is there a way to change that in Windows without rebooting? I'd love to have the exta power in games...

What is the performance hit of running it in a linux VM?

My systems fall into two categories. 1. Opened/rebuild often enough that dust isn't an issue. 2. Never opened or thought about. In the second case, I've found that filters are better at strangling all airflow over time than letting parts get dusty.

My system passes all of the above, but leave it doing XviD compression in AutoGK and it dies within hours.

It is RAID, but it isn't that expensive...

A client has an HP MFC (not sure the model, but it is new and has a flatbed scanner) that clogs in 2 days if it isn't used. I ended up writing a script that prints a picture every day at midnight. Crazy.

I ended up modifying the instructions found here. I can't reboot at the moment, so I'll continue later.

Overclocking isn't really an art anymore, is it. Now that you can dissasociate the RAM and CPU, and all the voltages are in the BIOS and easy to access. In 30 seconds I went from 2.4Ghz to 3.5 directly (no voltage changes or anything!). Now I'm just checking stability.

That is still a ways out I suspect. It has already dropped to the point where interest has increased significantly, and performance increases are more incremental. I'm hoping for a 150MB read/100MB write, that will be better STR numbers than the Raptors and (of course) the access time should rock.

Well, it seems there aren't enough suppliers, manufacturers, or tight enough competition to warrant a spreadsheet. It's pretty clear to me that MTRON rules the performance SSD roost. Not that there aren't faster (MemoRight), but that the 100%+ cost increase doesn't justify the 10% performance...

Doesn't Vista Suck for folding? If thats all the machine is doing, isn't that kinda silly?

That is a fine idea. All of my HTPCs run 2.5" drives (though I usually spring for 7200RPM).

I wouldn't do Vista on a CF; the speed is unlikely to be satisfactory. If it were just a folding machine, and could run TinyXP or Ubuntu, than it would be fine. For Vista, I would consider the small SSDs instead.
