BTW : Some of the nforce2 bridges require a lot of cooling at 200mhz. Some don't. Since this is a relatively new 'set, I'm guessing there's a lot of manufacturing variability in this.....

Merc & Blake-
My Vantec Aeroflow has a 70mm TMD fan (the type you referred to Blake)(see pic above). Not sure if a 40mm variety is available but I'd like to get one if I can.
One of the outlets of the HSF shoots right at the northbridge so that's cool.
I have an old 120mm and 92mm Panaflo...
Hey guys-
As several of you know, I'm running an Epox 8RDA+ (nForce2) motherboard now. I think it is pretty nice.I'd say it is very stable. It will run F@H all day long at 200Mhz FSB (400Mhz DDR memory synched & dual channel). It will hit over 3 GB/sec. reads on the RAM.
Anyway, at 200Mhz...
Good point. But with a tax break, the net spending won't go down as much.
I like this idea too.
I agree. I have a separate school tax bill. I have no kids yet and I may never actually use a public school (I prefer private). I feel only those who use public schools should pay for them...
Also-
I don't think the aging dempgraphics of the USA can be ignored. 15% of our population is between the ages of 50-65 (close to retirement or retired). Additionally, about 10% of our pupulation is between the ages of 65-80 (probably retired & hopefully living off some investment income)...
Good points Fushigi!
I agree the 80's are a case in point against my arguement (I was actually thinking about the 80's as I typed it but I was too young to know really WTF was going on). The ecnomy of today is much different than in the 80s (stock ownership was low then, especially but we are...
Merc-
Today, I believe it is pretty easy for two people who are married and have college degrees to have a household income in excess of $92K which puts them in the top 10% of all households. I don't think I can consider myself anything but *middle class* but according to the politicians...
Here's some interesting information on taxes I read in an InvestorInsight newsletter.
Another quote I tend to agree with:
And finally, did you know that you just may be one of 'The Rich' who are getting richer by the Bush tax reduction plan?
I love how these politicians talk about 'The...
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. I have the Cheetah 36ESs. I agree STR is a strong suit but they are pretty quiet too (for a 10K SCSI). In my WinXP stripe, I'm getting close to 100MB/sec.
C
I believe that is what the SoundStorm adapter card is for if I remember correctly. I could be wrong but I think that's it. I only need one input and output so I never have payed much attention to that stuff.
C
I'm using two 18GB 10K 36ESs in a WinXP stripe. They seem like great drives to me. The 36ES has a nicer tone than the Atlas 10K III IMO and the performance is just as good if I remember my SR reviews correctly...

About 16% faster than a Geforce4 Ti 4600 for $160 shipped:
Sounds like a good deal to me, Merc. I'd go for it!
BTW: THe numbers I presented earlier may not be 100% valid as I have just updated the drivers to the new Catalyst 3.0's, patched them with the soft-9700 patch, and then ran the 3D...
I ran the canned benchmarks for the fly-bys. All benchmarks were run at 1024/768 with all graphic options maxed out. Here are the results with the patched driver and the card running at the standard 9700 speeds (325Mhz Core/310Mhz (620DDR)). I'm not quite sure how to interpret them. They...
Yeah, it seems like it worked great. I just have not had time to benchmark but patching the drivers didn't seem to have any ill-effects and I get what I consider excellent fps in UT2003.
I think there might be a benchmark in the UT2003 folder. I'll try to run that and report back.

Guys-
I have three SCSI drives pretty tightly packed in my Fong Kai FK-320. There are two 18GB 10K Seagate 36ES's (WinXP software stripe) and one 18GB 15K X15-36LP (boot).

I have a thermister between the center drive (see picture) and the...
A friend introduced me to this cool webiste.

I especially enjoyed reading about the various 120mm munitions and how they work:
How would you like to run into a 120mm diameter shotgun with 1,150 tungsten balls coming at you at several thousand feet per second...
I saw something out there but it looked like it was for the DEMO version. I'm not sure if the benchmark results would be 100% correct if I used the retail version that I have. I know the textures in the demo are significantly less complex (according to the Atari people).

Historically, growth companies do not pay dividends whereas mature companies do. I take this as an indicator that MSFT is entering a stage where growth will slow (maybe significantly). I don't see that as a big suprise, either....
I would expect growth in share price to slow over the coming...
Manufactured by ATi. I have run this card at 300mhz core 300mhz (600ddr) memory without problems. It has the 3.3ns Hynix memory that is rated for a min of 275mhz (I think it is 275). Either way, it is the 'good' memory. I guarantee 275/275 but you should have no problem hitting 300/300 or...
I'm not sure if this is good...
I was playing at 1152x864 with all graphics maxed out as well as trilinear filtering. I twas haging around 50-60fps. I think I have this card running at the default 325mhz core and 310 (620ddr) mhz memory.if RIvaTuner is working right....

I got my Radeon 9500 128MB today. Ordered it from Newegg on Tuesday and I got it Today (Thursday). Damn that was fast. Shipping was free but I checked the box for 'Rush Order Out the Door Today ' for $3.00 because I was hoping to get the card before the weekend. It was well worth the $3...
I think you also need to think about time-to-market.
If I had a great idea or some great 'artists' working for me but didn't have my own engine, I may consider just liscencing another already established engine. That way, I'd get my game on the store shelves a lot faster while limiting the...
Yeah I thought about wind and solar but they don't realy have the power density to be practical (as evidence by their limited use).
I think hydroelectric power is great although you will find many environmentalists who think it is the worst thing ever.
Never really though about geothermal...
What irks me sometimes is that sometimes people think that electric vehicles will solve all the polution problems in the US and eliminate our dependance on oil. In some cases, these are probably the very people who think the electric energy they are using is just generated by the wall socket...
We'll be having many models with DoD in the very near future, jrt. Just just conecpts like the V16. Trucks in 2003 or 2004 as well as many other vehicles shortly thereafter....

I'm told this is night-vision video of an AC-130 gunship taking out a terrorist camp. I'm not sure if it is video from a Predator drone used for targeting or if it is from the AC-130 gunship. It is about 9 minutes long but the action doesn't really start until about 4 minutes. It is all...
Yep...that's it and it works. They have to do some interesting things (mechanically & electrontically) to maintain balance/smoothness but it is excellent.

I'd rather have the Cadillac 16. 1000HP V16 engine that gets 20mpg average (as tested on a cross-country run) using GM's Displacement on Demand technology.

They say they could build/sell it for $250K...who knows. It would be cool if they decided...
Saw that. It looks sweet and I'd like to do it. I have $155 in Best Buy gift certificates but BB doesn't have a 128MB 9500 (other than a Pro for $219).
I'd like to get the 128MB 9500 and run it as a 9700. How much better than my 64MB 8500LE at 300mhz core /300mhz memory would that be?

I'm overclocking my two Athlon XP 1700+'s to 2000+ speed using ~150Mhz on my ECS K7S5A's at the stock voltage. I'm too lazy to unlock the processors and I don't think the board has multiplier adjustment, anyway.
I'm overclocking my 2400+ to 2600+ speed (2.1Ghz rather than 2.0) at the stock...
I agree. I don't build hundreds of systems but the only VIA board I had major Major MAJOR problems with was an MVP3 based board (early on). Later I had an Epox MVP3 that was great, however.
KX/KT133/KT133a have been good to me.
My first SiS product (SiS735, I have tow ECS K7S5A's with SDRAM)...
