    TAXES

I'm not sure about the tax code in Australia but I'm fairly certain that a consumption based tax in the US would do nothing more than simplify the system rather than add complexity. The US tax code is somewhere in the range of 4000 pages long. Either way, it could not get much more complex...

Wow. That does look really cool! Thanks Cliption. THe only problem I see with it is: Until that somehow get's 'fixed' I don't think it is too useful for folding. As soon as there is a workaround, I'll be giving it a try though! I wonder if a HDD is required? C

    Anti SUV site

Most people I know who buy SUVs are because they offer increased versatility with a lot of cargo room. Women like them because they give them a sense of safety and good visability as well. Most never see a trail in their lives but, as I said, people are willing to pay for them. I think it...

What do you think of a hybrid system as I mentioned? I guess, one other problem with a consumption based tax is that it would probably be difficult to control the inevitable black market for goods that would be created... C

    TAXES

Good points. Keep in mind that those lower income people also have a lot more $ in their pockets now too because there is no income tax for them...either. For the rest of the community (without jobs...unable to survive... I guess there is federal assistance. Perhaps some type of hybrid...

    TAXES

I think we should have NO income tax in the United States (or anywhere). All the mony we make should be ours to spend as we like. Instead, I advocate an all encompassing consumption tax (i.e. only have a federal sales tax). No state taxes or anything, just the consumption tax. The more you...

This might be a little OT here but I knwo I've seen an AutoCad topic at least once. Anyway, I have an image file (any format let's say) composed of big block letters. I want to export (at least) the outline of the letters so I can bring them into my FE pre-processor (HyperMesh) and mesh them...

What Do you Think of this Slot A Problem?

Yep...I looked at the board...there are about 12-15 blown capacitors on it. Too bad $75 is too much to justify having the caps replaced. I hear that Abit had a bad batch of capacitors and that was the cause. C

Well, my dad said he left the machine on and came back to find it dead. I don't think I'm going to waste any more time on this mobo. I just bout another KX133 one for $40 and I'll be done with it. It will be a 24/7 cruncher now and my Athlon 1200 will be a part-timer at dad's house. Unless...

Lol. Heh heh it is my Dad's machine! :-P I can't justify giving him a new PSU (to officially support the 1200 Athlon) when he was barely using his 700 mhz Athlon classic processor! So do you think the board is just toast or that I could save it with a new BIOS chip? C

Also, the PS is now running an Athlon 1200 (underclocked @1000) right now with no problems. The PS (clone of the Antec P303x) is rated for Athlons up to 1000mhz although it seemed to run the system at 1200 with no problems either...I'm keeping it at 1000mhz to be safe and stable for my dad...

Yeah, I agree the homogeneous Win2K route would probably be cheaper and better if everybody used it nad it was possible to roll it out everywhere. However, we are split up between the following types: Somewhere around 100,000 people or so using (on average) P2-450 machines with Win98. THese...

From my perspective, I'm REALLY enthused about Itanium2. For my work, it will do a lot to decrease the compute time of my Dyna models. 10-11 hours to compute about 200 milliseconds of data for a 45,000 element door slam model is still too long for me.... My J6000 needs more speed. I wonder...
