    problem Hitachi Drive Quality...

I've had uneven luck with the 1TB Hitachis. Perhaps a 20% DOA rate. I blamed it on shipping damage, since all my orders have been for just a couple drives at a time. They're still vastly better than my luck with 1TB+ Seagate drives. I don't think I've had a 2TB Seagate drive last nine months.

    Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

I'd move the HEC Orion up a notch and I think I'd put all the Fotron/FSP group power supplies down on the bottom, at the very least. But yeah, that's a decent summary.

It's a lot easier for me to justify a $60 case with $3 in shipping than a $50 case with $20 in shipping. Those inexpensive Compucase chassis are just about the only thing I buy from Newegg at this point.

Based on the newest Retail Technet Pro subscription that I have, it appears that I'm limited to five product keys for products that allow for multiple downloads. Amazon Prime is $4/item for overnight with Prime. Amazon still doesn't have everything Newegg does but it's better than nothing. I also notice that shipping on Newegg's cases is suddenly much more reasonable, but the price on each case is now about $10 higher.

question Transcend 16gb & 8gb pata ssd works great for my Thinkpad!

Any Thinkpad that's compatible with the Ultrabay, even going back as far as the T20, can have a SATA drive bay. Yes really. As I recall, there are still disk controller limitations, but the drives are at least detected in the BIOS. Lenovo also doesn't like to discuss the fact that the Ultrabay...

    Western Hitachi Digital

Samsung makes NAND Flash chips. It's not like they don't have an exit strategy. I have a feeling spinning disks are going to be around for a good long time. Perhaps not as a growth market, but one that nonetheless needs to be served. Samsung is weird though. It has very limited relationships...

    Dual screen phone

Well, that WAS an off the cuff comment, not meant to be taken with precision. But truthfully, the phones that are being released right now are shipping with 1.2GHz dual-core CPUs, which is close enough to the start of things in 2Q 2001 that I'd be comfortable with that shorthand. They're not...

It should be noted that there is a limited amount of Uranium in the world, that new sources are increasingly hard to obtain, and that obtaining them causes tremendous environmental damage on its own. Nuclear power, as much as I like and approve of it, isn't going to get us very far.

    Dual screen phone

I would like to make the case that a machine with a 1GHz CPU and something north of 256MB RAM would have been a desktop machine worthy of drool just 10 years ago, and having that computer in an SMP configuration would have been godly, especially when it's tapped in to an always-on 2Mbps internet...

SSDs - State of the Product?

I don't actually have any SSDs doing anything important, now that I think about it. They're boot drives that connect to my local storage configuration, which is triple-redundant and spread out over dozens of drives, plus I have tapes.

TotalFark. The guy I'm talking to is a BSD contributor and former EMC employee. question Transcend 16gb & 8gb pata ssd works great for my Thinkpad!

16GB is plenty for an install of XP, Office, a decent web browser and a meaningful amount of end-user data. My sysprep install for XP SP3 + Office 2003 and a ton of extra drivers clocks in at just a hair over 1.5GB, less the swap and hibernation files.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Turns out, I know a guy on another forum who actually does work on Intel SSD firmware. Given the exchanges I've had with him in the past year, I have no reason to think that he's lying or joking about it. He's very down on Intel MLC products. Very down. He's suggested without confirming that...

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

I don't think the 5400rpm drives are reliable enough for general use.
