    3Ware or Adaptec for RAID

I am also using a 3ware card in a server 24/7. It has suffered several incidences of rebuilding without a hitch. I was the instigator of the rebuilds. The last review SR did on RAID cards left the Adaptec controller wanting. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I remember the model number correctly...

TYAN Tiger MPX S2466-4M, problem with BIOS rev. 4.03?

The extreme heat given off by the top of the case may very well be due to the PS being underrated. They tend to produce a lot of heat when pushed. So, you may kill several birds by eventually changing the case.

This is where the diplomacy breaks down in my mind. You don't want to bash his friend because that the guy defensive for his friend. But the next question from the customer is likely to be "Well, what is wrong with it." You can go over your original design decisions with the customer and...

New Cooler Master CP5-6J31C, anyone tried it?

There is nothing inherent in the different metals that helps them dissipate heat better or worse. The heat dissipation is governed by the density of the air, the mass flow rate and area which the air passes by. Heat energy will only transfer toward cold. If the thermal resistance of a sink is...

I would also refuse to work on it unless you make perfectly clear that you are not responsible for the box's stability. Too much reputation at stake. If the customer just received the machine, he is well within his right to return it and then buy yours.
