    Something Random

Had 10 people in for 8 hours tonight, all playing a massive game of COD. Then we went online and spanked a server full of americans playing BF: V My Saitek X45 and a stolen Huey Gunship are unstoppable. Esp. with my wingman (sitting 32" to my left) covering me for the theft and doing bad things...

Pictorial representation of what the war has cost

Tell me about it... Here you aren't getting more than 2 baths for under a million. You'd have to drive away from the ocean at least 50 miles before you found crappy homes for that price.

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

I had been keeping up with that thread before and just re-read the first page. It sounded to me like you'd pretty much already made up your mind going in, that's why I stayed out of the conversation.

Name that camera gear! (Big pic enclosed)

The body is a 10D with a 1Gb card, the lens is in fact a 100-400, and we were taking pictures of a motherbord in low light from ~5' away. I am not a camera guy (as you can tell from the pic above) but some of the results were quite impressive. I'll be trying to post more pics when I get the...

Best speaker set for PC with coax for ~200U$

I'm tempted to bring take some of th audio gear from the other rooms and hook it up to my PC. If I want loud, I can grab the 15" stage speakers and 1500W amp out of the garage. Too bad the baseline hum is louder than comfortable listening volume. I guess I could take a pair of the Bose...

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

You are talking about 2.8Ghz @ $300 each while saying AMD is overpriced? With Opteron 242s going for $225 a piece, I'd say Intel is hurting now more than ever (from a tech/perf standpoint, we all know they're still making $$$).

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

From the benches I've read, they lose about 30% on the second CPU and 60%+ on the quad...due to FSB bus \ memory bandwidth limitations, IIRC. I don't know if this would fix that problem, or make it worse

Yeah, I'll be using it as an archicve of sorts. Who cares if google can read my resume. It's a classic case of TMI; considering the amount of information they will have, mine will be of little interest.

[NEWZ] Mikersoft Proposes Augmenting Flash & Hard Drives

I too think using system memory would be better. Considering they are requiring OS support, the OS could simply stop using the cache when the battery drops too low. Or have a small reserve battery to handle wrting the data back to the drive.

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

Well, dual-core'd CPUs will bring parallel-ism to the masses. This will lead to much more development focus in the muti-threaded area and will help those with multiple-CPU systems take better advantage thereof. That Quad-Opteron board from Tyan is calling my name... :D

    Ghosting/Ghostcasting questions...

    SmoothWall and eMule Q

Not really. It still keeps the management at the server, all the configuration off the workstation, and is earier to configure than a static IP. All you need to do is key the IP itself, DNS, gateway and subnet are automatically pulled from the DHCP pool.
