    So, um, where is everyone?

This is what I've been doing my whole life. I've never gone into a job qualified to do it. And for the most part I've been honest about it.

    Firewall question

Late to the party again....sorry. My suggestion would be to connect the orange on smoothie to one of the LAN ports on your hardware router. That way you are only using the DHCP server and not bothering with another layer of NAT/BS... Just a thought.

    Sealed plastic clamshell packaging

I think the winner of the "sensible retail packaging award" goes to Thermalright. Their retail products ship in non-wax covered brown cardboard boxes with minimal inserts and plastic bags. I recently bought a case of OEM ATI Radeon 9800Pros, and they shipped in anti-static bags in a brown box...

    Sealed plastic clamshell packaging

Here we are given 3 waste containers, the first is very large and is only for yard waste. The second is 60% of that one's size and is for recycling, all different things that could possibly be recycled are dumped into the single container (they do the sorting). The third can is tiny, probably...

    Computer Cases

Of the CPU cooler? I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are speaking of the 4U rack linked by BooST, I have no experience. The 3U version that I linked to has nothing above the motherboard tray to the top of the chassis, leaving plenty of room for every cooler I've used.

Considering that my last migration (from an Antec Sonata to the P160) involved compatible rails, it was massively easy. Also good for doing a PS swap, or changing the master/slave config, or recabling, or any of the other things OCD people do on a semi-weekly basis :o

    Sony DRU510 Buffer problem

Considering this involves the replcement of the motherboard, therefore the chipset, therefore the IDE drivers; I'd make sure that you have the latest drivers installed. Did you do a re-install of the OS when you switched? Or did you replace the hardware and let the OS detect the new devices?
