What are you guys currently using or recommending for a primary monitor for people doing mostly office work, a little movie watching, and a little gaming? My Samsung SyncMaster 204B's capacitors seem to have just died - for a while it would take forever to turn on and now it just won't. Seems this is a common problem.

While I love 1600x1200, it's getting hard to find that size anymore at a reasonable price. I will have a secondary monitor to use as well.

Anyone have experience or thoughts about the new Samsung 2343 BWX running at 2048x1156? Or the Dell S2409W? Both seem to be about what I need an in my price range ($200-250).

Since I had one go bad, I've bought Samsung's at Costco. I'm using the 21.5" 2233's. Only Samsung they are carrying.

The more you spend, however, the better the percentage, at least in Kali, with the 16.00 monitor tax, plus 9% sales tax.

I've standardized on 1920x1080 with HDCP for all my screens (monitors, TVs, projectors). That way I can easily re-purpose/mirror them as needed. My most recent monitor purchases were some ASUS VW246Hs.

Dell has an inexpensive 22" non-TN panel. I've bought dozens of them but the model name escapes me. 2208WS maybe?

Dell has many lines, it seems. The SP lines seem to be the most expensive (i.e.- SP 2309). The S lines seem to drop the bells and whistles (S2309W, 2409W). And then there's the G series which I don't understand (i.e. - G2410, G2310).

Right now the S2409 can get had with coupon for $199. Seems like a good deal. I'm just wondering if the new Samsung with it's crazy high resolution of 2048x1156 is really that great. Seems the main selling point is the ability to have two A9-sized documents open side by side and have room to spare (and most of what I do on my computer is office work and writing). But at Newegg somebody made a comment that it didn't do well with fast moving scenes in movies,

I went the TV route with Samsung LN32-A550 32" and LG 47LH40 47", both 1920x1080.

Have a 32" on the desk and the 47" is in the living room and they are mirrored. I am at the small one for most of the day for work and primarily use the other for media center and TV.

I can't see ever going back to small monitors now. As far as resolution goes I could use a little more height just like the common complaint here is the lack of 4:3 monitors now but I am just working with what I can get.

The relevancy I was shooting for here didn't come across, but I also used to mainly go for the 1600x1200 resolution as well. I haven't had much of a hard time adjusting to 1920x1080. Viewing whole pages just leaves a ton of room on the sides for menu bars.

The keyboard shortcut that makes widescreen monitors useful is Win+left/right arrow. It makes a window take up either the left or right-half of the screen. That or setting them to portrait mode makes them much better.

2209WA, E-IPS panel. I'm using one right now and it's brilliant
