Maybe... Who knows... I'm pleasantly surprised. Now to see if people have figured out how to enable the Remote Desktop Server in Win 7 Home Premium.Perhaps because it is now an AMD product?
Looks like they have. link

In a shocking twist of events the ATI 5570 actually just worked out of the box. I installed Windows 7, loaded the drivers for the hardware, and got HDMI bitstreaming to work. No EDID issues and the video levels are right too. I've never had such a positive experience with an ATI produce before.
I also found out that my Pioneer Elite SC-05 can't apply DPIIx on top of DTS-MA HD audio.
I've got 7 speakers. I might as well use them. Oddly enough the receiver can apply PL IIx on top of Dolby TrueHD and 5.1 LPCM audio (and of course DD5.1, DTS5.1, etc). But, apparently applying PL IIx on top of DTS-HD MA is a no-no.Trying for 7.1 from a 5.1 source?
Well, it works. :salut:Maybe... Who knows... I'm pleasantly surprised. Now to see if people have figured out how to enable the Remote Desktop Server in Win 7 Home Premium.

At this point I kind of wish I could have a 1080p tablet to be a remote control for my HTPC. Maybe that new AMD IGP will get us there.
What the heck do I need sound for via remote desktop? That's still a teensy bit lame without sound though, isn't it?
That would be very cool, but what I'm thinking about is a next-gen MS Surface as a coffee table/remote control.
Have you looked at how much Microsoft charges for MS Surface? Last time I heard it was over $12,500 for the commercial model or $15,000 for the developer. A mighty expensive coffee table.

I agree that the 5770 is the current cost effective optimum especially at $140.
It is my understanding from the rumor mill that AMD will be releasing the next generation of cards in Oct/Nov time frame. The 6770 in Oct. and a 6870 in Nov. I saw some preliminary numbers for the 6870 claiming that its single GPU would be faster than the dual GPU's in a 5970. It the time frame is correct it won't be long before there will be lots of reviews giving real numbers.

If that turns out to be authentic then we are looking at the 6770 slotting in at a performance level close to that of the 5870 (moved to a 256bit bus from the 128bit 5770, bunch more of everything). And the 5850/5870 replacements must be really something.
I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. The headline says:They will be out next week.
Unless of course you have a time machine and have been holding back from the rest of us.AMD launching next generation of Radeon graphics cards next week, shipping by end of the year
Probably an AMD Radeon HD5450 or a nVidia GeForce 210.What is relatively inexpensive, but uses the least power possible for the 2D use only?

What were wrong with all the cheaper 5450's that brought you to consider that one? What about this card? I like that it is narrow and has no fan.
Both can accelerate H.264 video if that's what you're asking. Will it play video from 7D/5D II and D7000 OK?
I can download the Furmark and test the 5450 card, but is there a risk of damage? Does the card have internal temperature control to reduce power if it overheats?
