I am omnipresent
I am four for four on LiteOn SATA optical drives. As in, I have four that need to be RMA'd. They were ordered at different times, so it's not like I got one bad batch of drives, but I haven't had one live longer than six weeks.

Not only that, but the damned things are LOUD.

Anyone had better luck with one particular brand or other? Samsungs, maybe?

I'd buy the Optiarc drives but every time I try to get some they seem to be out of stock, whether I'm looking locally or at Newegg.

I have a pair of Samsung SATA opticals here. I think there is a problem with them, but I'll be doing more testing today. I suspect they are passing corrupted data.

I've never heard of the optiarc brand, why are you interested in them?

Just purchased a Pioneer because CD-Freaks liked it. I'll let you know how it goes

I'm one one one with the Lite-On optical SHITA drive. I will only buy Pioneer SATA for now. LG released one model too (GSA-H30N IIRC), but it cost me 5$ more than the Pioneer.

Samsung SATA drives appear to be fine...turns out to be an issue with a brand-new Shuttle SFF mobo, thing has been causing me headaches for days :(
