Not sure I buy into it as an OS. A web application platform sure... but an OS?

OS is a pretty broad term. A toaster oven can have an OS. It will run on a linux kernel and provide core functions e.g. drivers, windowing system, browser. It could also include and IM app and some kind of WiFi setup utility.

It is my understanding, from what I've read, that it will be very limited in scope. The OS will be designed for netbooks using a very limited version Linux with only enough to run the Chrome browser. Applications will be designed to be run off the browser similar to Google Apps. With that type of limitation, I really am not sure it will be capable of running Firefox, even with tweaking unless you recompile Linux with with whatever ends up missing.

It is yet over a year away, so as to be true vaporware with lots of speculation as to exactly what it will contain and thus I qualify my statement to be probably meaningless drivell. Regardless, Drivell or not, it is still my take on the product.

I'm interested in the answer. Chrome browser isn't good enough for my needs, but getting a super-thin OS behind Firefox interests me.

I would guess that it won't be possible with the first version. However, this is an open source project, so there isn't any limitation to what could be implemented. I would guess that once it goes "stable" the project will get forked and features such as this will be added.
