Just added a 400SC with 2.4GHz P4 (800MHz version). Can't believe how freaking silent this puppy is, it's been a long time since I've heard a hard drive seek. Wife likes it so much I might have to get another one for her.

Now to dispatch the duallie to the basement, somehow Windows Explorer has gotten corrupted, hard locks any time I go into Network Places.

What are the complete specifications on that system? HDD maker? Number/type of fans (if any)?

This is the one

I upgraded to 2.4GHz 800fsb P4 for $99. Also when I bought it the instant discount was $150. But still not bad for the money. It uses one of the Dell green vents that exuasts straight to the outside. I think I can definitely sleep with this one on.[/url]

A quick question for those with HT processors, is it better to run one or two instances of the client? Is there a speed penalty? It seems a shame to have the "virtual" CPU doing nothing. (Using XP Pro)

Thursday, 6:00am on ExOC's stats page :
  • CougTek : 43105.40
    The_JoJo : 43086.60
What did you say?

I know you passed me earlier, but one of my two systems was stuck with a Core_65 unit and therefore, slowed down my stats quite a bit. Sure, until I add another box, you'll certainly overtake me once again. Expect an answer in the end of January. This gives you around two weeks to forge an advanced. It might not be enough... :twistd:

Not bad :)

I just came home from a 3 day course, just to find my folders waiting to fold :(.
A ctrl-c and start later they are all happily crunching again. It seems the retry function isn't too good(?).

I just installed WinXP on a HP C2.2 that's going to a customer in a few days. Oh, almost forgot :mrgrn: , I installed FAH on it too, just for thorough verification of the systems stability.

Every time my linux client (hmm, got to check the other compute too.....) finishes a unit, it hangs here:

[05:30:54] Finished Work Unit:
[05:30:54] - Reading up to 153696 from "work/wudata_03.arc": Read 153696
[05:30:54] - Reading up to 1151356 from "work/wudata_03.xtc": Read 1151356
[05:30:54] goefile size: 0
[05:30:54] Leaving Run
[05:30:54] - Writing 1344580 bytes of core data to disk...
[05:30:54] ... Done.
[05:31:00] - Shutting down core
[05:31:00]
[05:31:00] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FINISHED_UNIT

Anyone experience anything similar?

is that a script? cause there was no fah file in my download....

You should be executing FAH4Console-Linux.exe to run the client. IF you're running the core then that explains your problem. The FAH4Console file manages the core.

For you linux people, you might want to try out gkrellm (nice utility that shows system state, cpu, memory, disk etc usage. THere are also lots of plugins for it) , and the fah plugin that is available for it. I just did, and it seems to work ok.
You can chose to have gkrellm to load fah on startup etc....

Well it's hard to tell how long my machine at home has been running as annonymous. I'm gonna guess sometime early December judging by my resulting stats. It's all good now.

AAARRRRGGGHHH:......:(

Been having these client-core problems for a long time now. Trying to find something on the forums....
Gonna try GAH only, let's see if that helps. This is on my Linux boxes, both.

For those that want to improve their folding:

The pande group has realeased a new version of the Gromacs core 1.56v. Specificly it is designed to quit causing machine lockups with Gromacs WU's and AMD machines but as a side benefit, it folds at aprox 2-3% (16 seconds on a 8 minute frame) faster.

To get it you simply need to delete the FAHCORE_78.exe file (while folding is not running) and when you start folding again it will automaticly DL'ed and used.
