Someone must have spent a lot of time to find all the clips where Brian Williams says all those words. Very funny and well done though.

They definitely did and there are many videos like this with him doing a variety of classic rap songs. There is a small mention in one of the interviews between Brian and Jimmy when he talks about the guy who spends all the time building this fun videos. He looks through some 5 years worth of reel clips with Brian.

I've recently gotten hooked on live studio performances on YouTube. Something about watching it happen while a band/artist takes on the challenge of nailing a song in one go is really attractive to me.

The Radio 1 covers are particularly awesome.

Go find Ben's cover of "Call Me Maybe", it is great as well.

Ed Sheeran is a great performer - my neighbors saw him live earlier this year.

Live Lounge appears to be based on the long-running "Like A Version" slot on Australia's JJJ radio network. In near-unplugged conditions, artists perform one of their songs plus a cover of someone else's hit song.

Of course, most JJJ stuff is "alternative", although in my experience that often means they play what will be popular in one or two year's time.

Most artists are fairly loose in this situation, but I selected this original effort from Sticky Fingers to highlight how tight some bands can be, even at 8am on a Friday:

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/media/s4192828.htm

You may want to select the "In Player" option.

One of my own pet interests is comparing an artist's 'draft' version to the finished studio version. This was inspired by a solo recording that Jimi Hendrix made while he was working out how to play Voodoo Chile. I enjoyed listening to the amazing contrast of 8 minutes or so of his semi-acoustic explorations with the final fully produced cut.

Here's an example from the young, all-sisters band Stonefield; first just two members, totally unplugged, in a tram(!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF-kEP8U1PI

And then, the complete 4-piece band all plugged in - you may be a bit surprised: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUhaDppM1B0

And a unique unplugged version from the band Kingswood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T634wetzKc

Followed by the normal version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlEZ1H9fFfk

I recently picked up the newest Adele album 25 on CD and I'm more impressed with this album than her last two from her creative music abilities. I recognize she's a talented artist but I couldn't really get into her previous two albums. There was something about the style of the music that didn't really jive with me and also how they were recorded on CD. There was something with the way the dynamic range or compression amount wasn't very clear to my own ears and seemed fairly crushed. In her latest album 25 there still isn't the desirable dynamic range one would hope for but I have been enjoying the music. Even with the low DR ranges, I still enjoy listening to her sing.

Next up, I was gifted the latest album from Nickel Creek - A Dotted Line on CD. The album is fun but they've continued with more vocals vs instrumental songs. The quality of the recording is perky to my ears and enjoyable. This album offers decent dynamic range to allow for the vocals to sing through and the crispness of the natural string instruments.

I also dabbled into another artist called Old School Freight Train - Pickin' on Coldplay- A Bluegrass Tribute. This is a fun rendition to a variety of Cold Play songs and can easily be listened to while doing other kinds of mental work without too much distraction. There is a decent amount of dynamic range in the recording to give you some popping pleasures from the instruments. I do notice a bit more noise/hiss in this album compared to some others.

Next up is the The Piano Guys - Live! album on CD. This fits in along the same lines as the Old School Freight Trains with easier to listen to music. They're fun covers of other artists and in this case a live recording with ample DR in some recordings to give you some depth.

So I picked up a pair of Sony z5 in-ear headphones, sweet baby jesus, makes me smile. I had Etymotic ER4s previously and they had tremendous isolation, but a very clinical sound. The z5s just make me tap my foot/nod my head. Next step - Pono player so I can use them in balanced mode.

So, it still doesn't have the dynamic range of the 5.1 version, but it's not quite as bad as my previous post suggested.
