GhostBusters has really, really high production values and features almost all the original cast of the movies (except, I think, Rick Moranis). I'd like to tell you how great it is but I can't make it not crash. I even assembled a different rig in case it's a hardware issue, but it doesn't seem to be.

I hope there's a patch or something.

This is orgasm in video game form.

Well, OK. It will be when it's released, anyway.

Note, among other things, the destructible environment, physics effects and the heat effects on the weapon barrels.

Actually I just found out that the dozen screen, 100 individual control Battletech pods that used to be be in Chicago's Dave and Buster's location were relocated to Kalamazoo, which is only about an hour from me. That might be worth a pilgrimage.

I haven't played mechwarrior in a real long time either. I'd like that game also.

Finished Fallout 3. My experience was much the same as Merc; I had a completely capped character very quickly, and when I finally did decide to pursue the main quest, it was over in under an hour. Oh well.

I can't believe it but my friends and I are back into DAOC. There is a server migration coming up and they are going to throw a ton of users on separate servers together on one server somehow so that the population numbers in RVR are going to be huge.

I too wondered around in Fallout 3 but eventually got bored. Really like the whole world but the quests etc could use work. I anticipate some new additions or packs for this game.

Saw the MW5 trailer a week or so ago, and it does look good. Funnily enough, I put a K6-III 400 together a couple of months back so I could play MW2/Ghost Bear and find out what was on a bunch of ZIP-100 disks

The best of the Mechwarrior games were really the first two.
And for what it's worth, I like the software rendering better than GLide or DirectX in the first one.

One thing that struck me as I watched that video for Mechwarrior 5 was that the real-time graphics in that were better than the prerendered movies that played in Mechwarrior 2.

I'm really interested in buying the new mech warrior game when it comes out. I loved the first two the best and didn't go much beyond those. I'll want to upgrade for this game which is kind of ridiculous, but I'd want to.

That intro reminded me of the intro to MW2. What is this, MW2 re-imagined :)

BTW, anyone know if it's a demonstration they will have a physics engine in MW5. If there is a game that could make use of physics, this is it.

Mechwarrior 2 was set in Clan Space in the lead up to the 3050 Clan Invasion of the Inner Sphere. The mechs involved were a mix of Clan Omnimechs and second line mechs that were re-imagined designs based on Archetypal mechs, e.g. Marauder IIc instead of the (illegal for them to use because some moron in Japan licensed the same design to multiple US companies) standard issue Marauder.

Mechwarrior 5 is actually set in 3015, roughly 10 years before the events of Mechwarrior 1 and 12 - 15 years before the events of Cresent Hawks' Inception and Cresent Hawks' Revenge.

The implication of that time period is that there will be NO advanced technology available to players. Heat Management will be critically important - many of the early designs have only the 10 "free" heat sinks. Combat will largely occur at shorter ranges than in the other Mech games and missiles will be much less accurate.

3015 would also have been a time of relative political stability in the Inner Sphere, just before the 4th Succession War. The video shows a Draconis Combine Atlas intruding on a Federated Suns planet (you can see the crest of House Davion on the banners in the streets). I suspect that the action will be limited to one planet, since the lore for that time period does not suggest any outright war between those polities.

In other words, this is a reboot, starting from the time period from the very first version of the game, as it was released 25 years ago.

The preview video features a Warhammer, another one of the archetypal early mech designs and is if nothing else a statement that the "lost" mechs are once again available for use with Battletech IP (the others being the Locust, Wasp, Stinger, Phoenix Hawk, Shadow Hawk, Griffin, Wolverine, Rifleman, Thunderbolt, Crusader, Archer, Marauder, Goliath and Battlemaster, most of which would be familiar to snot-nosed Robotech fans as things that are stupid and not Battlemechs). Nearly all those mechs were available in the first edition of the pen and paper game.

Physics? There's physics. Didn't you watch the video 70 or 80 times? When the Altas is impacted by the Warhammer's PPC, it shudders, and you can see particles from the Warhammer's machine guns bouncing off the Atlas's armor. More than that, you can also see that when that Jenner lands on the building it jumped on, all the glass from the windows falls out in a cloud of particles.

How about at the beginning of the trailer when the car parked on top of the garage is bouncing on it's suspension for every step the mech takes? Cool.

I'd also like to say that Warhammer pilot was pretty much a moron for not firing when that Atlas's head was the only thing in his sights.

And also for not withdrawing from that fight. The Atlas has 9 more tons of armor and a mix of low-heat ballistic weapons. The Warhammer is lightly armored for its size and only has enough heat sinks to account for firing half its main armament once per combat cycle (10 seconds, IIRC) without overheating, but it does at least have the ability to move 60m/s faster than an Atlas, and the range of the Atlas's Autocannon/20 is only 180m.

The Warhammer should've withdrawn and taken cover behind buildings until out of range of the Atlas's big gun, then done hit and run attacks until reinforced. Toe to toe, the Atlas can manage the heat it's outputting from its autocannon and missiles and take a few hits from the Warhammer's PPCs without serious consequence.

Why do I not have this game yet?

Haven't seen any news about Mechwarrior lately?

DAOC went through a server merge this week. All the old separate server clusters are going away and everyone is transferring to a new super server called Ywain which is TOA based. Lumping all the separate people together should increase population density quite a bit and make some good RVR. If you left because the RVR was sparse this might be a good time to check back in. Maybe wait a week though, the transfer mess isn't pretty but they are working on it.

The donkey raping anime fucks that also have a license to some of the models are trying to get the trailer pulled right now. I don't know if anyone who works for Harmony Gold speaks English, or is in fact not functionally retarded, but I suspect once they realize that there's an actual game associated with that video footage they'll be trying to stop that, too.

This is particularly obnoxious since the Battletech people just got a legal OK from the actual Japanese owner of those models that said they could start using them again, and since the current owner of the Battletech IP is no longer Microsoft but instead a tiny game company.

I started playing Call of Duty modern warfare last night after I picked it up on steam for $24 and I have to say it's really good. Much better than I realized. If you can still get it for this price, it's well worth the money even if you only play the single player (which is what I intended for).

I did enjoy that game, though certain sections were frustrating, with luck being the deciding factor. My favorite was the bonus scenario you get to play after you beat the game, played that many times.

I look forward to it. Don't spoil anything though. :) I originally watched the demos for COD MW2 before even seeing this game which is what prompted me to play it before getting the second one. The second one looks really good also. It has been a while since I've played a FPS that has held my interest.

There might be a demo if you want to check it out. It's fast-paced and seems to have a good story going for it.

UT (the original and the 2004 version) are hyper-paced, have great weapon balance, a huge variety of good maps and a lot of good game mods.

Modern shooters seem to take the pace to one extreme or the other. Either the game is glacial or it's just retarded bunny hopping combined with spraying whatever the fastest firing area of effect weapon is.

No thanks.

Dragon Age had an interesting trailer but I doubt the actual game will be anything like it.

That's strange to hear because UT is the type of fps that I look at ad hyper and bunny hopping. The call of duty game runs at a very nice pace and I don feel frustrated with the game play too much. It also changes thngs up quite a bit when you get to take on missions in the chopper or an ac130 gun ship. It is a nice variety so that I'm not getting tired from only playing as an fps soldier. See if you can find a demo and give it a try. You might like it.

My favorite FPS game has been Serious Sam, the original. I liked Unreal Tournament, but Quake 3 was too fast for me. Quake 1 and 2 were good too. The last FPS game I've tried was Serious Sam : the Secound Encounter, but I've never ben able to finish the third level (the antigravity chamber was beyond my limited skills).
