Seagate Announcements

LM should be happy, *when* the 500GB 7.2k laptop drive ships, should give better performance than the 7k320 Travelstar...until a 500GB Travelstar is announced ;)

Great. I purchased 6 1000GB drives in the past two months. Now they are obsolete and too small. :(

For the beleaguered LM:

* Momentus 5400.6 and Momentus 7200.4, 500GB 2.5" laptop drives to ship in Q4

That is too late. I'll buy a few of the 500GB Samsung drives now and then perhaps one of the 7.2K drives for the notebook later on. A 7.2K RPM drive is not desirable in a PSD anyway. I'd rather ghave 600GB @ 5400 RPM.

I purchased 6 750GB drives today. You don't see me complaining (too much) ;)

Yeah, well you can buy everything on demand. At my age, I have to consider a purchase for a day or two and sometimes discuss it.

I actually did consider the purchase for several weeks, and even discussed it with the SO 3 hours beforehand. But I fail to see what age has to do with it? Personality, yes. Age?

Damn, that is a lot of drives for one day. :) I don't have the space for too many drives, so I prefer the more capacious ones. Besides, enough power is consumed and noise produced by only one computer running 6 drives continuously. When I power up the other 3 internal drives and 4-bay external enclosure, the room becomes even warmer. And that does not include a second computer not curently in use.

Heh, maybe mental age. I feel like 70 this week.

Well, the rig I have now is starting to fill up. Total drive count for the single machine is: 12x 750GB, 2x 74GB, 3x 16GB. My RAID controller is only a 16-port, but the motherboard has another 6 SATA and 1 PATA if I need it.

I might need to upgrade from a 700W PS soon....we'll see.

Newegg had Seagate and Samsung 750GB drives for $99 with free shipping yesterday, too. I'm guessing that will be the standard price by September.

Where are those Momentus 5400.6 and Momentus 7200.4 drives? I want some. :)
