Forget it. Unless you decide to move to a slum in a third-world country and adopt the diet of the locals, you won't lose 8" of waist at the age you are. The fat that has accumulated there is there to stay in the most part and it will make you pay for every inch you'll try to cut. You would have to change your exercice routine significantly, to put your body in a state of shock (so that it reacts and start burning fat again). Cycling won't do it; your body is already very efficient at that, because of the years of training you've had doing it. Cross-country running combined to swimming might do it, but I don't know if you can do much of the former in New York city (safely, at least).Same here. Depending upon the make I can sometimes fit into a 36" waist but 38" is what I usually need. Trying to get back down to 30" like I was until my late 20s (sedentary job caused me to put on weight and ever since I've had trouble keeping it off).
You'll also soon realize that at fifty, you have nowhere near the amount of energy you had when you were half your age. It might not be obvious on a bicycle because of the years of training you've had on it, but it will be if you try to do something you're not used to do.
