Fushigi, if your post is in response to mine, India tracks regs that are used in Europe. My understanding is that these are much more lenient than, say, California. I believe the current reg. in India is compliance with Euro III, with Euro IV to kick in soon (or maybe it already did).

Even if they were to comply with, say, CA regs, I can't believe it will add more than $3k to the cost of the car.

Maybe that'll serve as an enabler to get more consumer-level diesels on the road, then. Light-duty trucks and passenger cars. There have been hints that Honda would bring our a diesel Accord in '09.

With BMW bringing their 1-series to the states next year (128i and 135i), it would be a great time to bring their 123d out as well.

Well either dd's rolling in dough now, or just youthfully fiscally irresponsible :D. BMW won't be selling a high performance diesel 1 series in the USA anytime soon, you're stuck with the gasoline version for the forseable future. It would weight well inexcess of 1 ton anyway, Mini Cooper S is 2,700lbs. (eh, I forget how much that is in kilo for Tannin :) ).

Honda won't intro a diesel either, they hare on a hybrid now, fuel cell in the future program.

Sorry for all of you who fit into this category from this link (http://blogs.intel.com/research/2007/10/usb_30_rocket_fast_file_transf.html)
Studies show that a consumer’s patience on waiting time is about 1.5 minutes and after 5 minutes they abort what they were doing.

As it will take more than 5 minutes to read the links below, lol :D

Planning a sight-seeing trip in San Francisco for some of my GF's relatives who have a hard time walking.

70+ miles of driving, and all-day trip though SF. I'll be renting a Cadillac DTS (or similar) for the day, and will be insuring it out the wazoo.

If that won't wear them out, I don't know what will.

For some reason, I can't include a link to the google map of the route. Embedded below:

Or you could spend more time doing it the other way [*url="link addy"]name for your link[*/url] (remove asterisks)...ah crap, I've noticed latest upgrade for vBul 'loses' some BBcoding on the 2nd time you preview it, lets see if I can get the original above working again...arrrgh!

*note* 3rd time a charm, I just went and did single character spelling error correction and lost the code again for the original above, definitely a bug with vB. Really Pissing MO, they need an update, like yesterday.

Cadillac? Are you trying to impress? Why not a more manuverable easy to park vehicle, as well as less expensive (Toyota Camry, maybe even a Passat sedan), one that is more space efficient inside to impress with roominess but still easier to navigate, not like SF streets are super wide and easy to drive around, especially steep hills where being as close up to the front of the vehicle (damned 2007 Honda Civic I rented for my trip to SF last July, has silly aerodynamice steep rake on windshield, long, long dash, making visibility at steep hills a game of Russian Roulette trying to cross intersections or making turns at those...haha, them for dd's driving day ;) )

Her relatives are "big" so I was looking for a big car. I also wanted the most comfortable thing I could find, as I would be spending 5-ish hours driving it around. Driving big cars on SF streets doesn't bother me; I lived there for a number of years, many of those driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd and an Audi A6.

Impress? Perhaps a little. This is my first meeting with any of her relatives. They will be staying at The Claremont for a medical conference, and I don't want to feel under-dressed ;)

Someone from Coolermaster wrote a rebuttal to my review of one of their products on Newegg today. In fact, that person wrote responses to about 30% of the reviews present.

I didn't know anyone did that, but it's a damned sight better than going on, say the AsusTek manufacturer forum, only to find out that their moderators delete every post with any kind of negative content.

Neat.

Rich physicians drive Ferrari, Mercedes, Bentley, Porsche, BMW 7 series, etc; you can't impress them in anyway (well except if you have a Gulfstream like Tom Cruise). Poorer physicians drive frugal/eco conscious cars, go for a hybrid Lexux GS450h...not as big a heavy boat as a LS Lexus, but still hybrid and luxurious in a geeky way, should be able to find one somewhere in SF, will cost more than a Caddy, but Caddy's don't really impress anyone...except those who are poor looking upwards. You should see all of the Mercedes, Porsches, Bmers in Chinese areas of So. Cal. at restaurants...hmmm, let me see if I can find that picture before dd nods off for the night :D

Asukama sushi restaurant in W. LA, @Wilshire & Barrington, supposedly Michelle Kwan eats there ;). Pix taken 2004?, think I posted this to SR once. Only crappy dim sum restaurant on the westside of town to the upper left above cars, not pictured (and no jtr, there is no way you'd ever get to experience the top dim sum east of LA downtown if you lived here and tried to get there via subways/light rail/buses...you simply *need* a car, and always will, period), now that the only decent one closed in 2005.

Asakuma-bling2sm.jpg

That's a new Mayback (Nevada lic#) & black Porsche Turbo, both new, parked by valet, both presumably both going to the lunch hour weekend dim sum service. That's how Chinese new wealthy like to impress :D

BTW, the lowest ego emission german sedan Passat shares the same basic mechanics/frame with the Audi A6, just different bodies is all.

Kind of like there are women who are the same height and weight as Heather Graham, just different bodies, lol :D (geez, I hope Merc isn't up now)

I know what rich physicians drive, I live near a bunch of them (Stanford University, Hospital, and Palo Alto Medical Center). One of the guys down the street parks his Cayanne Turbo S and Aston Martin Vantage on the street, I finally found out what he keeps in the garage; Aston Martin DBS.

But these aren't rich doctors, their Russians that happen to be physicians. Besides, renting specialty cars is a PITA. This is just the best the rental place at Oakland airport has to offer.

Udaman: please try to refrain from posting pictures. I don't mind them but the gestapo where I work takes a very dim view of them. I don't want them to block the SF site. Or worse.

Can these pictures be removed?

Thanks,

Uda: The Maybach couldn't have been valet parked. It is specifically designed to be chauffer driven, not owner driven. The chauffer would have parked the car.

Earthquake. 5.6 on the other side of San Jose (30 miles?). Barely felt, but fun.

I love earthquakes, they are the only thing that keeps our housing prices in check. ;)

That would be Southern California. And everyone, everywhere should know what to expect when it comes to disasters around their home. I don't feel bad for fire, tornado, earthquake, or flooding victims.

One of my cousins lives in the San Fernando valley. I've only seen him a couple times in my life, but he likes to talk about the fact that his apartment complex and grocery store are pretty much inhabited by porn chicks.

I'd put up with a mudslide or two if I saw the occasional 20 year old chick who didn't look like she'd already spent two years in prison, and that's the only kind we have here in Northwest Indiana (Except Nitsirk, who is not 20).

You could venture into Chicago, there are other kinds here as well.

Maybe you should come out here. Find some nice Amish girl, chuck the computers, trash the car and get a horse and buggy, live the simple life. :-D

Museums? Chicago Symphony Orchestra? Grant Park Music Festival during the summer.

I've been to all the Museums many times. The MCA less than the others, but still.

Generally I'm not too excited about live music. I understand going to a rock concert and screaming the whole time, but every time I've ever seen a live classical performance, there's some jackass with a cold/allergies/lung cancer who ruins it for everyone. Besides that, going to those things alone really, really sucks.

I don't really want to shop, and given that I won't drive 15 miles to get an edible pizza, going into Chicago for a meal is out of the question.

Also, eating in restaurants is also something I won't do by myself.

I've told Nitsirk, only half-joking, that my ideal career would involve being the towel boy someplace where it's very warm and there are swimming pools and hot chicks in bikinis.

... and I make pretty regular offers to be her towel boy. Don't know if she's made the connection to the other part or not, but I do. :)

Have you tried spending a couple of weeks or a year on tropical island?

No tropical islands.
All I'd do if I went someplace else is exactly what I do at home: read, get on the internet and listen to music. Why waste the time and money to travel for that?

I'm not getting on a plane again until the whole flying experience no longer feels like incarceration, either.
