I suppose that must be it. :alb: I never thought of it as much of a joke anyway.

Just to say, i had surgery to replace the lens on my right eye due to some cataract build-up. due to my hypertension, i underwent General Anesthesia to lessen complications. normally it's an out-patient procedure.
Uh, my high school friend/ophthalmologist gave me the lens for free and the hospital expenses were covered by medical insurance paid by my 2nd daughter. I'll be having the left eye done in May of next year.

IIRC, it takes a few weeks or even months to achieve peak results, but Paugie should ultimately have excellent sight in that eye.

The Fred Hollows Foundation said:
At the time (1980's), treating cataract blindness was prohibitively expensive. An intraocular lens (IOL) which is used to replace the damaged lens of the eye in cataract surgery cost up to USD$100. Mystique also surrounded the idea of modern IOL implant surgery, putting it into the league of open-heart surgery or organ transplant surgery.

Fred wanted to lower the cost of IOLs, for under US$10 each. His aim was make IOL implant surgery safe, affordable and more widely available for people in developing countries.

...

A year after he died, Fred's dream came true. In 1994, The Fred Hollows Foundation opened modern intraocular lens manufacturing laboratories in both Kathmandu (Nepal) and Asmara (Eritrea).

Since opening, the laboratories have produced more than three million lens for local and export use. Today, the Fred Hollows IOL Laboratories are independently owned and continue to produce high quality low cost IOLs which are exported worldwide.

At first, I thought I would wish you to go blind just not to agree with Stereodude, but since he was only following Mercutio's lead, then I guess I can wish you the best of luck too.

Next thing to fix will be your vanishing memory.

IIRC he is not that old, so one hopes recovery will be fairly rapid. :drnk:

31 hours remain. The drive is dying and thus very slow. :( Normally a zero fill only takes 3-5 hours.

Thank you for your well wishes.
I've been reading up on post-surgery dos and don'ts.
A clear plastic shield was given to me to wear almost all the time, especially during sleep. This was to keep one from scratching the eye when one was not conscious.
I just realized, one doesn't have to be asleep to be unaware of what one was doing. I wear glasses so to browse the net (not specifically forbidden) I switched from the shield to my glasses. And I did scratch my eye (upper lid) and only realized it after I had done it.
Oh boy. That worries me. I wonder how itchy it will become as it heals.
Here's to the next 4 weeks. ^_^

Good luck on the recovery paugie. Sounds like you can see out of it now? Or is it an opaque shield?

no, it's just some kind of plastic goggle/s
I'm looking out of both eyes. But my left eye is the one which gets the useable image, and my brain picks that out and deciphers it. I am thinking that as the right eye heals and stabilizes, I will be getting a useable image out of it, too. And soon, hopefully.

Random observation for 2:40AM on a Tuesday:

If at any time during the design/planning phase you think "It will be easier to sort that out during the build", you're wrong.

Designing the island cabinetry for the new kitchen in Solidworks. I'm hoping that even I can't screw up a complete materials and cut list combined with an exploded-view diagram.

I am omnipresent
Over the weekend I helped my father build some shelving for his home theater setup, a task made difficult by the fact that his TV is mounted in a recessed cabinet over a gas fireplace. He went to Home Depot, bought three large, flat pieces of birch and, with a table saw and a router, turned the whole thing out in an afternoon. He made a dozen or so measurements on each piece of wood and cut them without pause or further consideration. He didn't have any notes that I could see. My help was actually limited to "Hold this", "Put that over there." and "Clean that up."

We mounted it and set everything up to make sure his equipment works, then he took it down so it can be painted. And of course, it fit perfectly in the space provided.

Isn't the installer measuring the job out for you? I would think a basic sketch of your wants would be sufficient for them to do the accurate dimensions?

Mercutio, that's awesome. My maternal grandfather was a pretty good woodworker, he loved silky oak.

My father, on the other hand - god bless him - struggled to nail two boards together.

Unfortunately, I take more after my father than my grandfather.

Installer? I'm afraid this project will be all me. I've secured a table saw, and have the other tools required from putting the house together. Once I finish the design, I'm going to go get some cabinet-grade oak plywood, recycle the super-straight 2x4s from some walls I took down, and start at it. I'll be ordering the drawers online, so the rest can't be that hard...

How can the Egg be sold out? :cat:
Maybe something is out of stock for a while, but there are always more drives.
