I log into my bank account every day to check transactions (thank you mint.com). Just noticed a transaction I didn't make dated today for ~$2800. Turns out BofA customer service claims department is only open business hours. Strike one.

In Moscow, escalators to carry the city

Found this Washington Post article quite interesting, wondered if this was a bit like how the US was in the fifties?

Nice article. When I was there, I was stunned at the depth of the escalators. Particularly those around the river. And in weeks of riding them many times a day, I never encountered an escalator that wasn't working and completely packed.

I ordered something from newegg on Monday and they called me in less than 2 minutes from the time I clicked submit to inform me of suspicious activity on my card at newegg and they've declined the charge. I guess all the other stuff I've bought throughout the years wasn't suspicious? None the less I'm glad they called to confirm, but was rather surprised how quickly it was.

When I paid off my Element, the quote BofA gave me for the amount to put on the check was apparently only valid for some tiny amount of time, like eight hours. So I mailed my check in and thought I'd get my title in the mail inthe next short while.

Nope.

Three months later I got a call asking why I hadn't been making payments on my car. My payoff check was short by something like $2, and I had two months of interest accrued, which brought my car payment up to a whopping $2.40. This woman I was talking to was all "Why do you think YOU don't have pay YOUR bill for YOUR car!" I just let her rant. I figured that letting her talk to me like that was probably costing BofA more than I owed on the car.

It is those ridiculous situations where common sense never seems to apply to the person on the phone. If that woman looked at the amount of $2 and it being the remaining balance on a car...I think one should be able to see that there is some issue and at least ask a question before ranting.

I had one of those moments years ago when I was closing out of a bank when I moved out of town. I went in to the credit union and they told me it would be some $20 for a bank check to get all my money out which was close to $6K in that bank. I asked if they could just give me it for free since I've never asked for anything from the bank...surely that went no where. So I told the bank teller I wanted it all in cash. It took her at least 25 minutes to gather the cash in $20s and $100s from the drawers and I had them recount it twice. :) I figured it cost the bank more than the $20 bank check to spend the time and to empty a small portion of the cash reserve.

A few years ago I had a window salesman call me. I decided to let him talk. After a half an hour + (I was asking questions, egging him on & on) I said " those sound like some really great windows"
sales guy- " how many would you be interested in buying?"
me- "I don't know, I'll have to check with the landlord"
sales guy- "LANDLORD??!!??"
me- "yes, I rent"
sales guy- CLICK!

Funny, he never called back :diablo:

Did you ask for it in a brown paper sack in non-sequential bills?

You do know that he was just a man doing a job on commission. What you did didn't hurt the company at all, just the individual...

Interesting. I had an unexpected deposit for $2800. I'm sure its just a coincedence. :diablo:

With the additional benefit of not having to talk to a human, doesn't their website allow you to flag suspicious transactions?

Lucky they didn't mark it as charged off after 3 months. That would tank your credit score.

Nope. The website tells you to call customer service. Customer service asks you a bunch of questions, then tells you to call their transaction resolution hotline. The hotline asks you a bunch of questions, then tells you to hold for a rep, then tells you that no reps are available and hangs up.

I'll be switching all my business to a local credit union when I finish the remodel and refinance.

So, I finally got my Lenovo N5901 Mini Wireless Keyboard today. It seems pretty cool so far. The initial plan is to use it with my HTPC.

My mini-keyboard has a vastly more reliable connection than my bluetooth keyboards. I don't find myself having to reconnect it every couple weeks, which is a way of life with Bluetooth.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have great range. 15 feet, maybe. That works for my needs most of the time but if I happen to be sitting a particular way on the touch I'm SOL.

Some day, someone will get this stuff right.

My drives are so cold and maybe getting a bit wet since being in the Sharonmobile since October. I wonder how long should I wait to use them indoors.

I got screwed by a Newegg decline a couple of months ago. In the past ~year three different CCs have considered them suspicious. :dwarf:

It's some big-ass Ford SUV that hauls a bunch of people, but that's not important right now. :bravo:

Wow, thanks a bunch you guys! I never thought to look at wikipedia to see what was on this day. I went to see the new Tron movie for the first showing at 12:00AM today and didn't get to sleep until 3:00. Prior to that I had a bunch of people over for some tacos and watching the original Tron. It was a fun time, but nothing crazy. Tonight my sister and brother in law are coming to visit and then more festivities.

I met Ernie Hudson once. In a Denny's, of all places.

I saw Tron Legacy in a 3D IMAX showing. Much like the original, it's more an exercise in art direction than a movie, but wow is it neat looking.

I hope you've had a good birthday Doug. :)

Tron was a movie in 1982 with Jeff Bridges? Why have I not heard of it before?

Because it came out in 1982 and was a Disney movie. My father took me to see it on opening day. At the time he told me that some day every movie would be like Tron and I didn't understand what he meant. Now we're doing effects on TV budgets that would have been jaw-dropping to see in a movie theater 10 years ago, and we take it for granted.

It looks like the film came out a few days before I was on a major adventure, so there was no interest in such activities. I guess it was on TV eventually.
