I'm actually allergic to cats also. They make me asthmatic. For some reason, my cat does not make me allergic...not even the slightest.

I saw two of my neighbor's cat hanging out in my yard this morning. I've never noticed them climbing on cars or pissing on anything. I'm sure they do, but I guess it doesn't bother me. My cat is an indoor cat, so she's much safer than their cats would ever be.

Of course I would let my cat roam the neighborhood; that is what they want to do, and one of their biggest advantages to dogs (lower maintenance).

For those with a facebook account

There are actually people I know whom I no longer communicate with because I don't have a facebook account. It might not be a huge deal in the Philippines but the amount of data mining that is done on US and European Facebook users is completely sickening and I don't want any part of it.

I'm glad I skipped the facebook thing. Now and again I think about setting one up with fake info but why bother.

One of my customers sent me to look at their accountant's (not an employee, just some guy who does their accounting) PC today. It was a high end Dell XPS machine, but the guy was probably 60 years old and it was pretty obvious that the only thing he knew how to do was run Quickbooks.

Anyway, he was completely locked out of the system. I did a password reset and logged in on the Administrator account just to see what was going on.

The machine had all of its existing user accounts deleted, security software uninstalled and blocked via hosts file, productivity software removed (no Quickbooks or Office) and apparently had spent the last 22 days acting as a Tor-connected Seedbox, It was set up as a Ventrilo, IRC and Counterstrike Server. The 2TB drive in the machine was completely filled (seriously; less than 200MB free) with stuff like Xbox game rips and porn.

I had to explain to this guy that his computer had been taken over by evil people who used it for the equivalent of a joy ride. I didn't even bother trying to scan and repair the issues, just told him to dig up his restore discs.

I've never seen a machine that thoroughly owned.

December is the month when absolutely no one bothers to do anything but go to holiday parties and talk about going to holiday parties, as near as I can tell.

It was very sparse in the office on Tuesday; perhaps 25% attendance at best.

One of my customers is a commercial butcher that supplies high grade steakhouses. As a holiday gift, they brought me 60lbs. of USDA Prime-grade beef, including a dry aged standing rib roast that must be a foot long.

I don't even have a freaking grill.

Does your oven have a broiler?

It's not going to get above 30F outside any time in the next week. It's all in nice insulated boxes out on my balcony and I'm sure it will be fine.

It sounded like a very nice gift they gave you. Why not pick up a small grill or one of those George Forman-like things or hell, even a portable camping grill set that takes propane? Worst case you're prepared for future power outages and can cook. Sounds like they gave you some good stuff. 60-lbs of prime grade beef will last you a while and might be worth getting a small grill for it. Is it grounded beef or is it individual cuts? Figuring a basic/modest 9-oz portion size, that'll get you over 100 meals! Move it up to 12 and you're still going large at 80 meals. That's worth a grill IMHO.

My township banned use of grills in rented properties and I'll be damned if I ruin a restaurant grade ribeye on an electric griddle.

I don't know who decided what portion I got. Usually if I go over there to work in person they give me a couple porterhouses and I keep those until I can find a place to cook them.

Oh well. I'm going to have a really, really nice stir fry tonight at least.

Nothing quite like a winter solstice pagan ritual out in the forest -- cooking ribeye steaks over an open flaming pit of hellfire. ;)

All rentals or multi-family homes? I thought there were some requirements for distance from the building, that's all.

And against all odds, it's warming up enough here that I have to do something. Guess I'll go buy a chest freezer.

What about one of those rental places for getting a temporary freezer? Also, you said they banned use of of grills in your property, what about outside?

Yikes. I thought he meant outdoors, e.g., on a patio. I can't imagine anyone using a portable charcoal or gas grill indoors.

Oh Merc, you have such a way with words. Strategic reserve of beef, indeed. :mrgrn:

Am I the last one to notice? How did you become a Fixture with Fwatah on WD? Handruin seems to be the only other one with his line nVidia > AMD.

Originally it was me abusing my admin privileges in order to tease Mercutio from a post he made a long time back when slighting my brand of choice nvidia. Mercutio then inquired about it many months later in this post. I then enabled it for everyone. You're welcome to edit a custom title in your User CP if you so desire.

Cyclone Thane hit India not too far from where Mubs lives. He has not posted since Christmas so there's no way to know if he's alright or not. I haven't read much about Thane, but it doesn't seem to be a major cyclone. Mubs will probably only have to replace his hair after that small wind blow.
